Dean W. Mengert

Dean W. Mengert, age 65, of rural Fostoria, died at 2:57 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. He was born on April 9, 1955, in Findlay, Ohio, to the late Fred and Dorotha (Stoner) Mengert. He married Judy Cloud Mengert on June 26, 1999, and she survives. Also surviving are his son: Dustin (Amber) Mengert of Fostoria; daughter: Heather (Bill) Eigel of Bloomdale, Ohio; stepson: Ken (Jillian) Cloud of Franklin, Ohio; stepdaughter: Danielle (Cliff) White of Grove City, Ohio; sister: Ruth Anne (Mike) Musgrave of Findlay; grandchildren: Evan, Jaclynn, Wade, Austin, Logan, Levi, MacKenzie, Maddison, Max and Edison; mother-in-law: Elaine Marie Buser of Millsboro, Delaware. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law: Daniel S. Buser Jr. Dean loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much. He was devoted to each one of them in a special way. The love he had for Judy was evident in everything he did. They loved to travel together, especially to the beach to see Judy's family. His drive to help Judy with her craft shows and the many projects he worked on for her was endless. He was so proud of Heather's accomplishments and was in the front row the day she was sworn in as Clerk of Courts. He loved to watch Evan play football and basketball. He was the first one to yell at the refs about a bad call. He enjoyed spending time with Austin, his little buddy. He was so proud of Austin's first deer he harvested this year during hunting season. His passion for the Hancock County fair was definitely passed on to Dustin as they spent a few years on the fair board working together. Dustin was easily his best friend. They traveled to cattle shows together, talked on the phone several times a day and also co-owned Mengert Family Farms, where they have over 20 Herefords. Mac and Danielle held a special place in his heart. He was much more than just a stepdad to both of them. He loved hearing Mac's stories about reffing college and high school games. He also loved his newest grandson Edison and watching the daily videos of him. He was so proud of Danielle's military service in the United States Navy and loved to watch Kenzie, Maddi and Max explore the farm whenever they came to visit. Dean was a 1973 graduate of Arlington High School and worked for Crop and Soil in Fostoria, Blanchard Valley Farmers in Mt. Blanchard and retired in 2013 from Ball Metal. He served on the Hancock County Fair Board for 36 years, the Arlington and Washington Township Volunteer Fire Departments, the Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation Board, the Hancock County Cattlemen's Association, the Ohio Fair Managers Association, and Mengert Farms LLC. He worked diligently with his wife on Cloud Productions and had a true love for farm animals and birds. Visitation will be held at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday, December 17, 2020, funeral services will be held at the Olde Millstream Centre at the Hancock County Fairgrounds at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pastor Erma Metzger will officiate and interment will follow at Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay.
