Findlay hockey team finishes second in Holly Daze Tourney

Findlay peppered New Albany with 49 shots-on-goal on Wednesday but managed to slip just one shot into the net in forging a 1-1 tie with the Eagles during the final round of the Holly Daze Hockey Tournament at The Cube. Ryker Featheringham's third goal of the tournament and sixth of the season accounted for Findlay's lone score. "Every team has had to go through it, not just hockey but basketball, wrestling … It's par for the course for 2020," Patey said. "The kids are so used to it by now it's not really a distraction. Goebel pinned his opponents from Olmsted Falls (1:27), Medina Buckeye (:56) and Oak Harbor (2:53). The sophomore 120-pounder, a state qualifier as a freshman, also scored a 7-3 decision and won his fifth match by forfeit. Only a pair of 5-point losses marred the records of Mitchell and Phadphom. Mitchell, wrestling in the 138-pound division, pinned four of his opponents but dropped a 12-7 decision to Medina Buckeye's Eddie Neitenbach. Phadphom had three pins and a decision, but fell 11-6 to Allen East's Drake Carmean in his other match. John Paul Smith (126) and Max Farmer (285) won three of their five matches, while Tyler Treft (220) and Will Johnston (106) earned two wins each. Medina Buckeye went unbeaten (5-0) in the six-team event. Wauseon was 4-1, Oak Harbor and Olmsted Falls were both 3-2, Allen East went 1-4 and Findlay finished 0-5. (14-SUB HEAD) L-B wrestlers win DEFIANCE – Liberty-Benton's Brett Ogborn pinned both of his opponents on Wednesday in leading the Eagles to dual-match wrestling wins over Defiance (56-12) and Bryan (49-30). Competing in the 182-pound division, Ogborn was one of eight double winners for the Eagles. Avery Allen had a pin and a tech fall in the 126-pound competition, with Dru Baker (145), Mason Richards (160) and Gavin Gillig (170) getting a pin and a decision each.
