Carey man killed in US 23 crash

UPPER SANDUSKY — A Carey man was killed and his wife was seriously injured when their pickup truck struck a disconnected trailer on U.S. 23 at the intersection of County Road 44, northwest of Upper Sandusky, Monday night. The Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Roger S. Schlack, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:49 p.m. accident. His wife, Lana Schlack, 60, was flown to Cleveland Metro Health Hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the post, Salih J. Husain, 29, of Hilliard, was driving a Volvo semi truck with an attached box trailer, attempting to turn left from County Road 44 onto U.S. 23 South. While the semi was turning, the trailer became disconnected from the power unit and came to rest across the northbound lanes of U.S. 23. Roger Schlack, who was traveling northbound on U.S. 23, struck the trailer that was sitting across the roadway. The post reported that the Schlacks were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The accident remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were members of the Upper Sandusky Fire and EMS, Wyandot County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
