Library offers new winter reading program

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library will offer a new winter reading program called WinterREAD beginning online Monday. The program is open to children, teens and adults. Register through ReadSquared at http://findlaylibrary.readsquared.com/ Participants are encouraged to log their reading every day or participate in activities to earn points and be entered for prizes. Those who do not want to participate with the online platform can pick up a bingo board at the library. The program runs through Feb. 24. The library will be closed Monday to observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Ms. Sarah will present At Home Makerspace at 6 p.m. Tuesday, sharing different ways to make blanket forts. Check out "Events" on the library's Facebook page and look under "At Home Makerspace" for a list of supplies needed. Teens will kickoff WinterREAD via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. For an invitation, contact the Youth Services department at 419-434-1077. Ms. Nicole is back for a virtual storytime at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 20. The event includes books, songs and tips designed to help build a child's early literacy, fine motor and language development skills. The theme is "Peace and Kindness." A virtual family book bingo event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 for youth in prekindergarten through sixth grade. Register on the library's website to receive the Zoom link, a digital bingo card and the list of prize books. Prizes can be picked up in the children's department or through curbside service starting Jan. 22. Book Talk will be offered at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 for adults, and teens will take over Facebook with teen book recommendations at 10 a.m. Jan. 23. Programs can be watched live at the scheduled time, or anytime after the presentation on the library's Facebook page or YouTube channel.
