Findlay high swimming and diving set for conference meet

Toledo schools St. Francis and St. Ursula appear to be the heavy favorites once again heading into the 2020-21 Three Rivers Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Fremont Ross. St. Francis has won every TRAC boys title — usually by 150-to-200-point margins — since the inception of the league before the 2011-12 school year. Findlay has been runner-up six of the nine years the TRAC meet has been held. Findlay High won a girls TRAC swim title in 2017, but St. Ursula has become the league's dominant program since then. The Arrows will be going for a fourth straight title this weekend. Findlay enters the TRAC meet coming off a strong showing in the Oak Harbor Invitational, where the FHS boys were second and the girls fourth. "This meet has always been a great meet for us and it's a meet we circle on our calendar at the beginning of the season," FHS coach Jason Chomic commented after the Oak Harbor Invitational. "Our swimmers and divers really showed up all weekend long .... We look to carry this momentum into the TRAC Championship Meet." Findlay graduated its only 2020 TRAC champion in Graham Hartman, who won the 1-meter diving event. The Trojans do have a returning league champ, however, in junior Parker Stocker, who won the 500-freestyle event as a freshman. Stocker has switched to other events, and has done well. At the Oak Harbor meet, he set a pool record in winning the 100 backstroke (53.71), and teamed with juniors Selby Wilt and Xavier Doering and senior Zane Laws to set another pool record in the 400 free relay (3:19.41). Stocker, Wilt, Doering and Laws also won the 200 free relay. Findlay should score well in the freestyles after Wilt placed first in the 50 and second in the 100 and Ben Williams was fourth in the 200 free at the Oak Harbor meet. Stocker and Williams went 1-3 in the 100 butterfly, and Laws was runner-up in the 200 IM. Freestyler Gracie Smith, a returning state qualifier, is expected to lead Findlay High's girls efforts. At the Oak Harbor meet, Smith placed second in the 50 free, third in the 100 free and teamed with Delaney Spradlin and Ava Weissling on the third-place 400 free relay (along with Taylor Hudson) and the fifth-place 200 free relay (along with Ceilidh Smith). Weissling in the 200 (sixth) and 500 (fourth) free, Delaney in the 100 fly (third) and 100 back (second), Hudson in the 100 back (third), and Kelsie Ritzler in diving (sixth) also placed well in the Oak Harbor competition, along with the 200 medley relay team of Hudson, Paige Black, Ceilidh Smith and Jillian Nicholson.
