McComb's Schroeder named Player of the Year in BVC

McComb's Malorie Schroeder led the Blanchard Valley Conference in just one category this season. But the senior guard showed up in nearly every statistic kept by the league, showing the versatility that earned her BVC Player of the Year honors for the 2020-21 season.Schroeder led the league in 3-point accuracy, shooting 42.6 percent (29 of 68) from long range. But she was also fourth in the BVC in scoring (13 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.1 rpg), second in steals (3.3 spg) and sixth in assists (3 apg). Schroeder was also sixth in total 3-pointers made (29), fourth in overall field goal percentage (53.9) and third in free throw shooting (61-80, 76.3 percent.)Joining Schroeder on the all-BVC first team are Cory-Rawson's Zoe Chisholm, Arcadia's Reagan Pratt and McComb's Olivia Miehls -- all seniors -- Pandora-Gilboa junior Lacie Fenstermaker and Liberty-Benton freshman Lauren Gerken.Nate Irwin, who led Liberty-Benton to a 10-0 run through the BVC and 17-4 regular-season record, and McComb's Jeremy Herr, who had the 18-4 Panthers, 8-2 in the BVC, in contention throughout the season, shared BVC Coach of the Year honors.Like Schroeder, Chisholm could stuff the stats for Cory-Rawson. Chisholm led the BVC in steals (5.1 spg), was second in scoring (14.2 ppg), and averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists.Miehls, who averaged 13.1 points and 6 rebounds, teamed with Schroeder as a strong 1-2 punch for McComb, and Pratt led Arcadia, averaging 12,4 points, 2.4 assists and 2.7 stealsFenstermaker averaged a double-double for P-G, tossing in 12.7 points and grabbing 13.1 rebounds a game. Gerken made an immediate impact aa a freshman at L-B, leading the league in both scoring (17.2 ppg) and field goal percentage (128 of 218, 58.7 percent). She also averaged 6.3 rebounds.The all-BVC second team featured Liberty-Benton's Riley Irwin (10.5 ppg), Leipsic's Liz Scheckelhoff (9.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg), North Baltimore's Grace Hagemyer (9.8 ppg, 9.9 rpg), Arcadia's Samantha Burnett (10.4 ppg, 3.1 apg), Van Buren's Breanna Tabler (8.8 ppg, 2.8 apg) and Vanlue's Audrey Phillips (11.5 ppg, 3.5 apg).Liberty-Benton's Lauren Smith (9.4 ppg), Arcadia's Lyndee Ward (9.7 ppg), Leipsic's Whitney Langhals (10.5 ppg), Cory-Rawson's Mackenzie Cascaden (7.4 rpg),Riverdale's Carrigan Vent (7.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and North Baltimore's Mia McCartney (8.5 ppg) were third-team all-league selctions.
