Vanlue's Bonham, C-R's Thomas earn top BVC honors

Vanlue's Joey Bonham's averaged the most points in the Blanchard Valley Conference in 2020-21. Cory-Rawson coach Al Thomas brought his team within a win of the Hornets' first league title in 42 years. Each earned top honors Monday, when the Blanchard Valley Conference announced its all-league selections. Bonham – a senior who averaged 18.1 points, better than six rebounds and 2.4 steals a contest – was named the BVC's Player of the Year. Thomas, on the strength of a 7-3 conference record, was named coach of the year. Bonham was joined on the first team by Leipsic's Mason Brandt, Cory-Rawson's Grant Bacon, Arlington's Bryce Gast, Liberty-Benton's Josh Reindel and Riverdale's Jackson Clark. Reindel averaged better than 12 points a game for the Eagles and was among the league leaders in 3-point percentage, making more than 41 percent of his 3s going into the last week of the season. Clark averaged better than 10 points and nearly eight rebounds a game. Reindel and Clark each led their teams to shares of the BVC championship. Brandt, a junior, went into the final week of the season leading the league in overall scoring, with 350 points (17.5 a game). He also led the league in assists, averaging nearly five a game. Bacon, a senior, averaged better than 16 points and about eight rebounds a game for the Hornets. He was was third in the league with 23 blocks. Gast averaged nearly 15 points and five rebounds a game for the Red Devils.
