UF basketball teams fall in GMAC Tournament

MEN'S BASKETBALLCEDARVILLE 76FINDLAY 73HILLSDALE, Mich.-- The University of Findlay men's basketball had its chances to win Friday night's G-MAC semifinal. But it just couldn't take advantage of them, losing to Cedarville 76-73.With less than 10 seconds to play and Findlay, down 74-73, Oiler first team All-GMAC guard Tommy Schmock (16 points, five rebounds, five assists) drove down the lane and was fouled for a one-and-one opportunity. But he missed the first foul shot and Cedarville got the rebound and got fouled with 2 seconds left.Quinton Green hit both free-throws to put the Chargers up to three. On the baseline inbound, Findlay's Nate Bruns heaved the ball to half-court, and into the hands of Ethan Linder, who had an open look at a 30-footer, but it was too strong and UF fell, its first loss in five games.Bruns, the Oiler post and another first-team all GMAC selection, scored 15 points and brought in six rebounds in the loss. Tre'Maine Gray also scored 15 points.All five starters for Cedarville reached double-figures, with Green leading the charge with 17 points. Isaiah Speelman knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Kollin Van Horn and Conner TenHove both scored 14. Branden Maughmer scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.Even with the loss, the season likely isn't over for Findlay. The D-II NCAA Basketball Tournament begins next Saturday, and it's likely the No. 20 Oilers will make it. They were ranked third in their region as of last Sunday,. WESLEYAN 77FINDLAY 57CEDARVILLE-- Kaylee Clifford went 8 of 16 from the floor for a game-high 23 points in Kentucky Wesleyan's 20-point victory in the G-MAC Tournament semifinal win over Findlay, 77-57. With the loss, the Oilers season likely ends at 12-11.Leah Richardson connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for Kentucky Wesleyan. Shaylee McDonald scored 11 off the bench.The Oilers were led by first-Team all-GMAC forward Sydney Kin who finished with a team-high 16 points. Kin finishes her season averaging 21.7 points per game, which is the highest season average in program history, breaking Mianda Watts' 21.4 points per game average from the '99-00 season. It is also the second-highest in G-MAC conference history.Bridget Landin scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, giving her a double-double in the loss.
