Easter eggers hatch plan

Evan Veychek and Hunter Rickett would like to "egg" your house this Easter. But don't worry. There aren't any chicken eggs involved — just plastic ones, filled with candy. Veychek and Ritter, both third-year pharmacy students at the University of Findlay, are helping the Easter Bunny by offering to spread candy-filled eggs around front yards for area children to enjoy. Their business is called Egg My House. Prices are $25 for 50 eggs delivered, $50 for 100 eggs, and $95 for 200 eggs. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. "Even if we have just a couple of dozen families sign up, we're able to at least brighten those kids' days," said Veychek. A native of near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Veychek said he grew up attending large Easter egg hunts back home. When he later became involved in the Scouting program, Veycheck helped put on egg hunts for the younger ones. Veychek said the idea for "egging" houses actually came from some of the churches around his hometown. "A lot of the older people in the church would go out and make up the Easter eggs and drop them off at the houses where all the kids were. And then the kids wake up in the morning and they see all of the eggs out there and it's just a really fun thing," he said. While the service is available back home, Veychek hadn't heard of anything like it in Findlay. "I thought this year with COVID especially, a lot of people aren't going to want to go out to those big park settings. They're not going to want to be around hundreds of people," he said. Veychek and Ritter will take orders, stuff eggs with different types of candy — all individually wrapped — and then deliver them to front yards the night before the holiday so they're ready to be found on Easter morning. Delivery is limited to the Hancock County area. "That way the kids can just wake up in the morning and it's out there, and it's a nice surprise," he said. The two students have already recruited a team of friends to help on Easter eve. Ritter's parents have even offered to come and help for the day. Given that they're donating part of what they make to the library, the entrepreneurs said they're just hoping to break even on the project. Basically, they're doing it to bring some Easter joy to children, said Veychek. This isn't the first time Veychek has dipped into the business world. When he was 14, he started a concession business, taking lemonade, ice tea and kettle corn to area fairs. He and his family have a company called Laurel Mountain Group that encompasses seven different businesses, he said. Veychek hopes the egging event takes off locally, because he has other ideas to expand it in the future, "but one step at a time." "We still have three more years after this that we can keep doing, and then potentially pass it on to someone else," he said.
