Cory-Rawson leaving BVC for NWCC in '23-24

Cory-Rawson will be playing in a new league in 2023-24. The school announced Thursday that it would be leaving the Blanchard Valley Conference for the Northwest Central Conference. The Cory-Rawson Board of Education voted to accept the Northwest Central Conference's invitation. Cory-Rawson has been part of the BVC since 1950, when the school opened. "We're definitely excited," said Cory-Rawson Athletic Director Caleb Scott. "We feel like it's a good move for our district. Certainly, love the BVC and are grateful for all the years we've had there, and hope to continue those relationships with those schools going forward." The news comes a little more than a month after it was announced that Elmwood would be leaving the Northern Buckeye Conference for the BVC no later than the 2023-24 season. Last year, Leipsic announced it was leaving the BVC for the Northwest Conference. The Vikings will begin play in the NWC in all sports next fall. In joining the NWCC, Cory-Rawson will be competing against teams including Elgin, Hardin Northern, Lima Perry, Ridgemont, Riverside, Lima Temple Christian, Upper Scioto Valley and Waynesfield-Goshen. Ridgedale is set to become a full-fledged member of the conference next fall, while Crestline is joining the league in football only. Cory-Rawson also announced Thursday the hiring of Corey Briggs as head football coach. Briggs is a Lima Bath graduate who played football and ran track at Ohio Northern University. He later was a strength and conditioning intern with the University of Oregon and Ohio State football programs. Later, Briggs was an assistant football coach, first at Lima Bath, and most recently at Bellefontaine High. "He's super motivated, energetic," Scott said. "I think he'll do a lot of great things for our school."
