Relay for Life again canceled due to pandemic

The University of Findlay/Hancock County Relay for Life event continues to be on hold due to the coronavirus. Senior development manager Kala Boswell, unified event support for the American Cancer Society, said a Relay event is not being planned for this year. The agency did, however, post a luminaria slide show online and acknowledged the support of the university and community. It is also providing information on how COVID-19 has affected those facing cancer. "The students have struggled this year with campus involvement and fundraising while trying to stay safe and healthy on campus," Boswell said. "They are hoping and planning to be back on track in the spring of 2022, though!" Separate events were held by the community and the university until 2019 when the two combined into a single event at UF's Koehler Center. The jungle-themed event brought together more than 400 people. On campus, members of the Colleges Against Cancer group organizes the event which traditionally begins with a lap honoring those who have survived their battle with cancer, and ends with a ceremony and luminaria service for those who have lost their fight. The public event was also canceled last year because of the pandemic.
