Experience, leadership of trio deserves support For the past several months, as I debated whether or not I should seek a fifth term as City Councilman At-Large, a major concern was the ability, experience and integrity of a possible replacement. I was delighted, and I must add reassured, when 6th Ward Councilman Randy Greeno showed interest in becoming an At-Large candidate. Randy exhibits the highest qualities of integrity, ability, knowledge and respect for short- and long-term needs. In addition, as a former city employee, he has shown the unique perspective to appreciate the valuable insights our outstanding workforce can offer. Randy has been involved in the management of the water and sewer departments and will provide the experience and operation of these vital services, which will require the necessary expenditure of millions of dollars over the news few years. After serving alongside my two At-Large colleagues, Grant Russel and Jeff Wobser, for several years, I am privileged to endorse both of them for reelection and urge your support as well. They have always been prepared to deal with the many issues before council. They have a cooperative working relationship with other council members and administration, and they have financial understanding, short- and long-term priorities and, especially, the ability to deal with other community entities. This includes the county commissioners, schools, private sector, public and private housing infrastructure requirements and many others. We have disagreed occasionally, but I have always had the highest respect for their viewpoints. We need Randy Greeno, Grant Russel and Jeff Wobser to further the outstanding progress they have demonstrated as stewards of Findlay, and I urge your support for them on May 4. Tom Shindledecker Findlay Council At-Large Kudos to county commissioners Regarding the county's interest in buying the lot at the Findlay Village Mall, kudos to the Hancock County Commissioners for thinking outside the box. This is a great idea for repurposing a space that may have gone empty for years. It saves the county money and leaves downtown parking spaces available. I am also impressed that they kept this negotiation to themselves. That's hard to do in a small city like Findlay. Chuck Gerringer Findlay Pleasantly surprised I was pleasantly surprised after readings Wednesday's Courier. There is some hope that some political leaders actually are trying to work for the people who voted them into office. The idea of using parts of a dying mall into a functional space is fantastic. What happened to the original commissioners? This is not normal for a political power to actually think. The walls are there, parking spaces are there. The price seems reasonable, the only thing now is to design what goes where? I'm in awe that politicians can actually think about the voters and not about getting reelected. Carroll Lanning Findlay
