Findlay tennis second in final TRAC standings

TOLEDO – Findlay High's No. 2 doubles team of Nick Simmermeyer and Haden Harris very nearly pulled off a stunning comeback on Saturday. In the end, though, the Toledo St. John's second doubles team of Jack Oswald and Jonathan To, which had swept Simmermeyer and Harris 6-1, 6-1 just three days earlier in the regular-season match between the two schools, was able to survive 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 in a two-and-a-half-hour final of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference tournament. "I have never been more proud of a team or players for the heart they showed today," FHS coach Sean Swisher said after the match. "They never backed down and fought until the bitter end." Findlay won TRAC titles at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. At first singles, Max Hosey defeated 2019 TAC Player of the Year Aidan Williams 7-6, 6-2, and at No. 3 sophomore Austin Asada beat Nathan Allen 6-0, 6-4. All five of the TRAC finals matches were head-to-head showdowns between players from Findlay and St. John's players, making every outcome pivotal for the points that would determine the overall league champion. In addition to its three-set win at No. 2 doubles, St. John's got a first at No. 2 singles, where Tyler Wood defeated Carson Dale 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 1 doubles, where Alex Kufner and Rafael Yazji posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mac Robertson and Arda Dastan. With the 14 points earned by edging Findlay 38-37 in the TRAC tournament added to the 14 points the Titans had for going 7-0 in regular-season matches, St. John's ended the season with 28 total points and reclaimed the league title it had lost to Findlay in 2019. Findlay (12-12— 24) was second in the final standings, followed by Oregon Clay (10-10— 20), Toledo St. Francis (8-8— 16), Toledo Central Catholic (6-6— 12), Fremont Ross (4-4— 8) and Lima Senior (2-0— 2) and Toledo Whitmer (0-2— 2). WOMEN'S SOCCER Frank propels Findlay women's soccer to title COLUMBUS—After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year Olivia Frank scored a pair of second-half goals to propel the University of Findlay to a 2-1 victory over Cedarville to win the G-MAC tournament championship. It is the first time the Oilers have won a conference tournament title since joining NCAA Division II in 1997. Frank's first goal came in the 58th minute to tie things at 1-1. In the 82nd minute, Frank found the back of the net yet again to score the game-winner. Both of her goals came from two Hannah Rybicki assists. In front of the net for the Oilers, freshman keeper Kelti Wise saved two on three tries. The Oilers end their spring season with a record of 10-1-1.
