Mark C. Thurman

Mark Charles Thurman, age 49, of Columbus, Ohio, died unexpectedly of natural causes on June 28, 2020. He was born in Findlay, Ohio, on September 16, 1970, to Eldon and Carole Thurman. He moved with his family to Columbus in 1987 and graduated from Hilliard Davidson High School in 1988. He attended Anderson University and The Ohio State University. Mark made his career in the supermarket business and worked for Big Bear and Kroger. He was a dedicated and hard-working employee who never missed a day of work. He was an avid golfer and excellent Scrabble player. He enjoyed Stephen King novels and read The Stand in one day. He also loved music. One of his favorite groups was Pink Floyd. He wore his Pink Floyd cap everywhere and always stood out in the crowd. Above all, Mark valued his family and friends. He was a generous, kind, and gentle soul. Every Thursday for 8 years he met his dad, his friend Gregg McKinney, and other family members for lunch. The thing he missed most during the COVID lockdown last year was lunch with his dad. Above all, Mark was a dreamer. Like Ozzy Osbourne, he "dreamed of better days" and hoped for a world where all people lived together in peace. Mark was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father; his brother, Kevin; his sister, Suzanne (Bryan Vickery); and two nephews, Charles Makowski and Andrew Makowski. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Meadow Park Church, 2425 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service will start at 11 a.m. On May 15, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, Indiana.
