Elmwood, NB, NR earn No. 1 seeds in softball tourney

Elmwood, North Baltimore and New Riegel were seeded first and Hopewell-Loudon earned a No. 2 spot in the voting to determine pairings for the OHSAA softball tournament.Seeded No. 1 among the 12 schools that comprise the field for the Division III district at Lima Bath, Elmwood took a first-round bye and awaits a May 14 matchup against the winner of a first-round game between Fostoria and Patrick Henry.North Baltimore was the top seed among the 13 schools in the Division IV Elida District field. The Tigers will match up against either Kalida or Ottoville in a May 13 second-round game.New Riegel, which rose to No. 2 in the latest Division IV state rankings, was seeded No. 1 and Hopewell-Loudon No. 2 among the teams in the Oak Harbor District. Both took first-round byes, and could be headed for a May 21 district championship game showdown with a bid to the regional tournament on the line.Findlay was seeded sixth among Northwest Ohio's 18 Division I schools. The Trojans will face Three Rivers Athletic Conference foe Fremont Ross in a May 12 matchup, with that winner advancing to the district semifinals at Maumee.OHSAA softball tournament games are set to get under way May 10. In the first two rounds of the tournament, the higher seeded school will be the host team.
