Vanlue rallies late to top Leipsic in softball

VANLUE 8 LEIPSIC 6 LEIPSIC — Shut out for five innings, Vanlue broke loose for all of its runs in its final two at-bats to come away with an 8-6 win over Leipsic in Monday's Blanchard Valley Conference softball game. Mara Simon led Vanlue inside the pitching circle and at the plate. Offensively, Simon had two doubles, a single and scored twice. She also allowed just four hits and struck out seven, and pitched two shutout innings after Vanlue fell behind 6-0 through five. Audrey Phillips had two hits and drove in two runs and Maria Saltzman and Savannah Carillo added RBI singles for Vanlue (4-11, 3-3 BVC). Caitlen Flick had two hits and Jocelyn Hermiller and Catherine Essinger doubled for Leipsic. Hermiller gave up eight hits and struck out 12 Vanlue batters. ELMWOOD 3 EASTWOOD 2 BLOOMVILLE -- Eastwood got a run in the top of the first inning, and for much of Monday against Elmwood, it looked like that was all the Eagles were going to need. Elmwood's bats were silenced through the first five innings, and when Eastwood went up 2-0 in the top of the sixth, the Royals chances seemed even bleaker. But things changed in the bottom of the sixth. Keyed by a Madison Hoiles home run, the Royals scored three runs, and came away with a 3-2 win. Kate Keiffer had two hits for Elmwood, which received a strong pitching performance from Maddie Milligan, who struck out 11 in seven innings. BASEBALL LEIPSIC 6 VANLUE 0 LEIPSIC – Jaden Siefker threw five shutout innings Monday, and Leipsic teammate Quin Schroeder followed with two of his own as the Vikings shut out Vanlue, 6-0. Siefker struck out nine batters for Leipsic, which improved to 14-5, 7-1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. Liberty-Benton is the only other BVC team that has one conference loss. Schroeder struck out four in relief. The Vikings did all their scoring in the first five innings, putting up two runs in the first and another two in the third. Leipsic had seven hits of Vanlue starter Jaren Kloefer, all singles, and took advantage of five Wildcat errors. Tyler Sickmiller singled and scored twice for the Vikings, while Siefker had a single and drove in a run. Kloepfer allowed six runs, three earned, while allowing a walk and striking out three. JR Snook had two singles for the Wildcats, who dropped to 14-5, 7-1 in the BVC. Clark tripled and scored three times in the win, which moved the Tigers to 7-7, 6-3 in the BVC. Gunner Kepling had three singles and scored twice for North Baltimore, while Gage Dewitt doubled and drove in three runs. For Pandora-Gilboa, Eli Huffman had P-G's lone hit, and scored a run. Drew Meyer started and took the loss on the mound. P-G fell to 8-6, 4-2 in the BVC. (14-sub head) Tennis team wins Findlay High's boys tennis team did not lose a single game in three singles matches and captured both doubles matches as well in posting a 5-0 win over Sylvania Southview on Monday in the first round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team tournament. By 6-0, 6-0 scores, Max Hosey (No. 1) defeated Haroon Hasan, Carson Dale (No. 2) banked Jerry Ning and Austin Asada (No. 3) beat Amaan Orner in singles play. Mac Robertson and Arda Dastan scored a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Southview's Prenav Dixit and Kayshov Aqulhatri at No. 1 doubles, and Nick Simmermeyer and Haden Harris (No. 2) completed Findlay's sweep by a 6-0, 6-4 score over Isaac Caputo and Lucas Curran.
