Findlay boys run away with track title

The only race was for second place in the boys standings on Friday when Findlay High's track team ran away with the title in the Cooper Tire Invitational held at the Cooper Tire Track and Field Complex.Findlay's boys amassed 157.5 points, almost doubling the total of runner-up Bowling Green (83). Tiffin Columbian was a close third (78), while McComb was eighth (36) in the 14-school field.Findlay's girls were fourth overall with 91 points. Anthony Wayne won the girls title with 123.5 points, with Tiffin Columbian (99), Sylvania Northview (98) and Findlay battling for second.Findlay's Micah Gremling and McComb's Kavon Bailey highlighted some intense competition in the meet. Both broke the meet record in the long jump, with Gremling leaping 21 feet, 6 inches to edge Bailey in the event by a singe inch.The two were neck and neck in the 100-meter dash as well, with Gremling winning the event in 11.15 seconds and Bailey (11.26) nipping Findlay's Ben Ireland (11.27) at the wire by a hundredth of a second for second. In the 200, Ireland was second (22.61), Gremling third (22.64) and Bailey fourth (23.37). Ireland and Gremling both bettered the previous meet record, but finished just behind Tiffin Columbian's Kesean Jackson's time of 22.60.Findlay scored well in the hurdles, with Elijah Baxter winning the 110 highs (16.12) and finishing second in the 300 intermediates (41.70). Jacob Barfell gave the Trojans a 1-2 finish in the 110s, backing Baxter with a runner-up time of 16.29.Ireland also won the 400 with a meet record time of 49.67, and was second in the high jump (6-0). Max Farmer was second in the discus (127-11).Two FHS relays were second: Alex Theis, Colin Jordan, Baxter and Avion Miles in the 400 (45.13) and Gremling, Barfell, Baxter and Miles in the 800 (1:34.68).In addition to Bailey's scoring in the sprints and long jump, McComb got a first from Dylan Swisher in the shot put (45-11).Findlay High's girls got record setting performances from Brianna Nichols and Elaine Hohman.Nichols swept the throws and set records in both, winning the discus with a mark of 132-4 and the shot put with a heave of 36-41/4. Hohman won the pole vault with a met record leap of 10-6.Corinne Seager was third ion the 300 hurdles (52.12) and Morgan Foos was third in the high jump (4-10).Two Findlay relays scored well, with the 3,200 team of Lindsay Cassata, Katie Prusnek, Karlee Dittman and Colette Seager placing second (10:12.80) and the 1,600 relay of Elizabeth Laird, Katelyn Stechschulte, Corinne Seager and Briona Thomas placing third (4:23.58.).Findlay High's track teams will be back at the Cooper Tire and Rubber Complex next Friday when the Trojans host the Three Rivers Athletic Conference championships. Manns part of three wins as Rams win in Elmwood BLOOMVILLE – Upper Sandusky's girls picked up a number of key wins, and held off Wauseon and Elmwood for the crown at the John Ramsey Invite Friday in Bloomville. The Rams finished with 150 ½ points, while Wauseon had 132 and Elmwood had 128 ½. Van Buren (103), Arcadia (71) and Seneca East (65) took the next three spots in the standings, while New Riegel (34) took last. Gracie Manns led the way by being part of three Upper Sandusky victories. She won the 100 in 13.29 and the 400 in 1:03.46. In addition, Manns joined Lindsay Weininger, Emma Brown and Jenna Weininger to win the 4x100 in 4:20.7. In addition, Kendra Conley won the pole vault for the Rams, clearing 9-6. Elmwood won a pair of relays, with Liz Hoffman, Havanna Holland, Rachel Spanfellner and Brooklyn Thrash taking the 4x200 in 1:53.88, and Spanfellner, Holland, Thrash and Emaline Lee winning the 4x100 in 32.95. Meanwhile, Lee claimed the 100 hurdles in 17.39 Ella Webster shined for Van Buren in the 1,600 and the 800, claiming first in each. She ran the 16,00 in 5:28.2, then won the 800 in 2:28.48. Webster's Black Knight teammate, Rachel Cavera, won the 200 in 27.6. Van Buren also won the throwers' relay, with Madalyn Riesen, Reese Recker, Megan Pisarski, Mia George finishing in 1:00.82. Arcadia's Paige Massie won the high jump by clearing 5-3, and New Riegel's Katelyn Arbogast won the 300 hurdles in 51:11. Van Buren boys second at Elmwood BLOOMVILLE –Van Buren's boys didn't have an individual winner, but they did have enough points to finish second at the John Ramsey Invite at Elmwood. The Black Knights had a few second-place finishes, including one in the 4x100, where Gannon Bahn, Luke Brown, Ethan Greathouse and Aiden Haley finished in 45.49. Seneca East won the 4x100, and it also won the meet, with 154 points, 11 more than Van Buren. Wauseon (130) finished third, ahead of the host Royals (98). Upper Sandusky (90 ½), New Riegel (40) and Arcadia (37.5) rounded out the scoring. Elmwood's Jaydon Jenkins won the shot put (17-5) seated wheelchair event, as well as the 100 meter seated wheelchair dash in 16.62. He also won the 400 dash seated wheelchair event in 100:38. The Royals' Barrett Coleman won the 100 (11:46) and the 300 hurdles (41.17) and the 200 (23.59). Upper Sandusky's Gage Frey won the pole vault in 12-0, and the Rams also won a couple of relays. Ethan Halker came in second place in the boy's high jump for CG with a jump 5'10" and in the long jump with a jump of 19'2''. His teammate, Jacksen Schroeder, came in first in the long jump with a jump of 19'10''. Halker and Schroeder were also a part of Grove's first place finish in the 4X100 (44.62), along with Jon Banal and Gabe Clement. Banal also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.37 and Clement won the pole vault championship with a height of 13'0". Makailey Bermudez won the girl's high jump (4-10) for Grove, as well as seventh in the long jump (13-11). She was also a part of the 4x100 team consisting of Kierston Closson, Savannah Ridenour, Jaylen Sautter, and herself. Sautter and Closson were also a part of the first place 4x200 team. Columbus Grove's Kennedy Flores came in first in the girl's discus (114-6) and in the shot put with a throw of 40-5. Leipsic's Peyton Heitmeyer finished first in the long jump with a jump of 15-5. She came in second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 and with a time of 1:00.06, won the 400m dash. Pandora's Gavin Biery won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with times of 11.81 and 24.03 respectively. TENNIS Findlay takes care of Walsh Jesuit Findlay's No. 2 doubles team of Nick Simmermeyer and Haden Harris rallied from a first-set setback to outlast Walsh Jesuit's Charlie Snow and Charlie Kealy 3-6, 7-6 (10-8) 6-2 to highlight the Trojans' 4-1 team win over the Warriors. Findlay claimed two other tightly-contested matches to improve to 16-2 on the season. At No. 3 singles, Austin Asada posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) tie-breaker win over Michael Ulrich, and Findlay's No. 1 doubles team of Mac Robertson and Arda Dastan beat Walsh Jesuit's Ethan Shah and Nathan Lahovich 7-5, 6-0. The teams split the top two singles matches. At No. 1, Max Hosey scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Caleb Miller. Walsh Jesuit's lone win came at No. 2 singles where Ben Cors defeated Carson Dale 6-0, 6-1.
