Hancock Park District opens hunting lottery

The Hancock Park District has opened its Hunting-with-Permission Lottery, a program provided in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. This year's lottery will be held virtually on Facebook Live on the Hancock Park District's Facebook page at 6 p.m. Aug. 3. Winners will be drawn at that time, and those selected will be notified by email. All current rules, regulations and parking passes will then be emailed. Participants will not be required to have a Facebook account in order to participate in the drawing. Interested individuals must register online at hancockparks.com under "Park News" by July 31. Winners will be chosen from the following categories: five deer/gun permits; five deer/muzzleloader permits; 10 small game permits; 10 deer/archery permits; five youth hunt permits; and five fall turkey permits. Interested youth must be 17 or younger for the upcoming youth season in order to be eligible for youth hunting permits. There is a limit of five entries per person. A person can enter all five entries in the same category or divide their entries among different categories. Jamie Shane, administrative operations manager for the park district, said about 60 people entered the drawing last year. To enter, an individual must live or own property in Hancock County. The season for hunting at Litzenberg Memorial Woods will run from Nov. 1 to Jan. 31, 2022. The south side of Litzenberg will be otherwise closed to the public during this period, Shane said.
