COUNTDOWN TO FOOTBALL: Cory-Rawson

CORY-RAWSON 2020 RECORD: 0-9 overall, 0-6 Blanchard Valley Conference. KEY GAME: After a winless 2020 campaign, Cory-Rawson will want to come out firing on all cylinders when it travels 10 minutes to face its rival, Bluffton, in Week 1. In last season's battle, the Pirates took it to their rival, 50-14. In the last 17 matchups between the two, Bluffton has won 16. PLAYOFF HISTORY: Before 1972, the Hornets not only had playoff history, but they also had the hardware to prove it. The Hornets went undefeated in 1952, '65, '66, '68, '69, and '71, including the completely dominant 1968 when they were named Class A state poll championship by the United Press International. That team did not allow a single point that season. But as far as the OHSAA is concerned, those records mean very little as the current system in which they play came in the 1972 season. Since '72, Cory-Rawson has made the postseason four times ('02, '03, '09, '20) and posted a record of 3-3 in those games. Last season, the Hornets saw their postseason cut short due to a canceled game against BVC-rival Pandora-Gilboa. INTERESTING FACT: In the 2020 campaign, Cory-Rawson suffered its first winless season in school history and continues its decades-worth of losing seasons. But the Hornet-faithful are hoping the hiring of Lima Bath and Ohio Northern-grad, Corey Briggs, will be able to turn the tide. Briggs was a strength and conditioning intern for the University of Oregon and Ohio State football programs.
