FHS tennis blanks Little Giants in Fremont

TENNIS FREMONT – Findlay won all five matches, and didn't lose a single game in three of them, in posting a 5-0 win over Fremont Ross on Tuesday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference girls tennis match. By identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, Sydney Swisher blanked Fremont's Ava Smith at No. 1 singles and Ava Roach shut out Trin Jones at No. 3. Findlay's No. 1 doubles team of Madison Barberree and Libby LaMasters chalked up a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Trinity Smith and Kayla Lewis. Mollie Quaid earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Morgan Shetzer at No. 2 singles, and at No. 2 doubles Mia Kennard and Katy Rubiola outlasted Alexis Huff and Jenna Gooslin 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Findlay improved to 9-2 and 3-1 in TRAC matches. The Trojans will host Toledo St. Ursula on Thursday in the second round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team tournament. CROSS COUNTRY Rams place second BUCYRUS — Five Upper Sandusky runners finished in the midst of a 10-runner pack and the Rams placed second on Tuesday in the boys division of the Wynford Cross Country Invitational. Jonah Voorghees finished seventh in a time of 19:04.7. Ashton Vent (19:32.99), Jason Barr (19:33.22) and Benjamin Patchett (19:34.00) were 10th, 11th and 12th, with Evan Hinesman placing 17th (19:49.29). Upper Sandusky scored 57 points with those five top-20 placings and finished second to Marion Pleasant (34). Upper Sandusky's girls were seventh (139), behind a third-place finish from Hope Morris (21:39.35). Macy Mewhorter was 19th (23:54.01) for the Rams. Riverdale did not field a full team in the girls meet, but Allison Woodruff was fifth in the overall standings (22:03.74) and Liviya Benjamin was 18th (23;49.40). Football game cancelled Due to COVID-19 concerns at North Baltimore, Liberty-Benton's football game with the Tigers Friday has been cancelled. Liberty-Benton is looking for a new opponent for Friday. UF's McCracken takes home Player of the Week honors After his stellar performance last Thursday, Van Buren graduate and University of Findlay sophomore soccer player Nick McCracken was named GMAC Player of the Week. In the season opener against Northwood, McCracken etched his name in the history books with a four-goal, eight-point effort in the 7-3 win. His four goals tied not only a UF record, but a GMAC record as well. The last Oiler to achieve this feat was in 1998 when Zach Grieshop scored four goals against Cal (PA.) His eight points tied a UF record (Alex Kersetter '17, Greishop '98, Omar Farrar '89) and is second all-time in the G-MAC. The Oilers next play Saturday, Sept. 11 against Purdue Northwest. Harpster to host race HARPSTER – The Ohio Flat Track Sports Center/Triangle Motorcycle Club will be hosting a 9/11 Commemorative Race on Sunday, Sept. 19. The track will be commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11, and honoring, track side EMT volunteers and all first responders everywhere. All first responders will be admitted free with I.D. card, and receive a 53/43 memento. Regular admission is $10.00 per person.
