Notre Dame sweeps Findlay tennis

TOLEDO — Jacob Rashid scored two goals on Tuesday in leading Toledo St. John's to a 4-0 win over Findlay in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference match at Lyden Field.Aion Morton-Wizgen and Cam Doyle also scored for St. John's, which this season is gunning for its sixth straight TRAC championship in boys soccer. The Titans beat Findlay 1-0 in last year's league match, but the Trojans turned around and beat St. John's 2-1 to win the Division I district final and advance to the 2020 regional tournament.Findlay entered Tuesday's match unbeaten overall (4-0-2) and in league play (2-0-0), ranked No. 10 in the Division I state poll, and coming off a strong defensive effort in a 0-0 draw with No. 2-ranked Mason. Following Tuesday's win, St. John's is 4-1-2 overall, 2-0-0 in the TRAC.Ethan Ernst led Findlay defensively with 13 intercepts and two steals. Ryan Shindeldecker had eight intercepts and four steals. Goalies Andrew Sorg (1) and Zach Gremling (2) combined for three saves.Findlay will face another state-ranked TRAC opponent when Toledo St. Francis visits Elmer Graham Stadium on Oct. 5. CROSS COUNTRY BOYS Columbus Grove boys run away with title at Elida Invitational ELIDA — Thanks to having nine of the top 10 runners, Columbus Grove's (20) boys cross country team was able to not only win but win handily at the Elida Invitational on Tuesday. Ottawa-Glandorf (106) placed second at the meet, with Lincolnview (122), Lima Bath (138), Delphos St. John's (149), Kenton (156), Allen East (168), Defiance (173), Van Wert (197), and Elida (197). Roy Langhals (17:36.3) placed second for the Bulldogs, while Carson Closson (17:42.3) and Trent Koch (17:57.8) placed third and fourth respectively. Allen East's Hunter Sidle ran a first-place time of 17:27.5. Ottawa-Glandorf's Ty Rosengarten ran a time of 19:01.1 that gave him 12th place. GIRLS O-G's Fortman takes first place at Elida Invite ELIDA – After scoring a goal and dishing out an assist on Monday, Alexa Fortman ran a first-place time of 20:44.3 in Ottawa-Glandorf's (51) first-place team finish at the Elida Invite on Tuesday. COLLEGE Derek Lynch named Player of the Week after a stellar performance After posting a stat line of 303 yards rushing and two touchdowns, University of Findlay running back Derek Lynch was named G-MAC Player of the Week. The Oilers won in overtime last Saturday 34-28 over UNC-Pembroke. UF's Blevins named Player of the Week Freshman Journey Blevins was named G-MAC North Player of the Week after a pair of fantastic performances at the Nova Southeastern Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Blevins began the weekend with 16 kills and a .414 hitting percentage in a win over Millersville to start the event. That success continued as she carried the Oilers to three wins while picking up 64 kills, 4.00 per set, and hitting .419 for the weekend. UF Women's golf takes sixth at UIndy Invite CARMEL, Indiana – The University of Findlay women's golf team opened their 2021 fall campaign with a sixth-place finish at the UIndy Fall Invitational at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana on Tuesday. The Oilers finished the three-round tournament on Sep. 14 with a 54-hole score of 922 (58 over). Pacing the Oilers were seniors Danbi Kim and Jill Schmitmeyer. Kim ended the tournament in a tie for 14th place after posting a 13-over par score of 229. Schmitmeyer (14 over) tied for 18th place with a par score of 230. The Oilers will be back in action again on Sept. 25 in Big Rapids, Mich. at the Gildas Club Laker Invite.
