City honors public works employee for excellence

The city of Findlay presented A.J. Copus, public works foreman for the city of Findlay's Public Works Department, with the John Edward Seman Award for Employee Excellence on Wednesday. The annual award is intended to recognize a city employee whose service, dedication, integrity and commitment to community are exemplary. Copus started with the city of Findlay as a seasonal employee from 2002-2005, working in the Cemetery and Parks Maintenance departments. In 2006, he was hired full time in the Street Department, and was later promoted three times. He was then promoted to public works foreman. Copus was also a nominee for the award in 2018. The program is named in honor of Assistant City Engineer John E. Seman, who passed away in late 2004. City employees who have served at least one year, except elected officials, are eligible for nomination. Nominations are made by city employees. Three city employees were nominated. Nominees included Copus; Mike McKitrick, of the Public Works Department; and Ken Paul, of the Water Distribution Department. A plaque displaying names of past award recipients is displayed in the municipal building.
