Findlay boys second at districtA pair of top 10 finishes carried the Findlay boys in Saturday's Division I district race at Owens Community College, and carried the Trojans into next week's regional meet at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.Adrian Stechschulte raced to an eighth-place finish in 17:04.38, while teammate Spencer Bihn placed 10th in 17:06.61. That helped Findlay to a second-place finish overall, with a score of 84 points.The top four teams advanced to next week's regional in Tiffin.Toledo St. Francis, which placed five runners in the top nine, including champion Ethan Cope (15:56.97) claimed the district title. St. Francis had 23 points.Also for the Trojans, Benjamin Smith took 20th in 17:34.06, Ty Cordonnier placed 22nd in 17:37.21, and Preston Perkins took 24th in 17:46.72. Seager paces FHS girlsFindlay's girls just missed out on a district title Saturday at Owens.Colette Seager ran in 20:01.3, placed third overall, and pushed the Trojans to a runner up finish in the team standings. By placing second, Findlay advances to next week's regional meet at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.Findlay was three points away from a team championship, finishing with 92 points. Only Toledo Notre Dame (90) was better.Karlee Dittman, who like Seager and all but one of Findlay's runners, is a senior, placed 14th, running in 20:36.55. Anne Traver finished in 22nd for the Trojans, crossing the line in 21:01.68, while Lindsey Cassata ran the course in 21:11.84 to take 23rd. FHS' Elizabeth Laird placed 28th, running in 21:23.95Fremont Ross' Evelyn Szymanowski won the individual championship, running in 19:26.96, almost 24 seconds better than any other runner. DIVISION III GIRLSAfter 3,000 meters of running a number of area teams and individuals came up just short in the girls portion of the Division III district cross country meet at Owens Community College on Saturday.Van Buren will be sending its team to next weeks Tiffin Regional after finishing among the top five at district. The Black Knights finished fourth (123) behind Old Fort (74), Margaretta (75) and Woodmore (94) and just ahead of Gibsonburg (126). Carey fell one spot short, though, placing sixth with 132 points. Hopewell-Loudon was seventh (168) and Elmwood tenth (204).Top 12 placings by Van Buren's Ella Webster (5th, 20:06.39), Lily Grady (7th, 20:36.56) and Rylee Orchard (12th, 21:04.59) powered Van Buren to its fourth-place finish in the team standings. Olivia Coutinho (44th, 23:22.54) and Megan Pisarsky (55th, 23:56.10) completed the Knights scoring.Though Carey did not advance as a team, Sarah Reinhart, a four-time Northern 10 Conference champion and three-time state qualifier, punched her ticket to regionals as runner-up in the Division III girls race. Reinhart ran a time of 19:22.93 in placing second to Old Fort's Macie Miller (18:55.63). Also advancing by finishing among the top 20 runners were Riverdale's Allison Woodruff (4th, 19:53.14), Hopewell-Loudon's Alivia Roerdink (9th, 20:56.74) and Carey's Chloe Etzinger (10th, 20:58.31). Hopewell-Loudon was ninth (195) and North Baltimore was 12th (354).New Riegel's Jacob Clouse (16:48.81) and Brandon Gillig (16:54.47) ran a close 1-2 in the meet. Sendelbach was third with a time of 17:04.12, Brayden Young was fifth (17:29.95) and Bryce Young seventh (17:58.15),Riverdale's Isaiah Dyer qualified for regional by placing ninth (18:04.82), Carey's Audic Ritter was 13th (18:11.24) and Van Buren's Reed Harmon was 15th (18:81.67). Elmwood was sixth (152) and Fostoria eighth (206). The top three teams qualified for the regional at Tiffin's Hedges-Boyer Park, along any other runners placing among the top 12.Upper Sandusky got top-ten finishes from Ashton Vent (5th, 17:31.69) and Jason Barr (7th, 17:40.10). Benjamin Patchett was 14th (18:13.33), Jonah Voorheis 16th (18:18.49) and Evan Hinesman 17th (18:29.68) for the Rams.Liberty-Benton sophomore Gabe St. Amour led the Eagles, and the entire field except for Maumee's Eric Bond. Bond ran a blistering time of 16:08.12 to win the Division II race. St. Amour was second in 17:14.18.L-B's Chase Collert was 13th overall (17:59.29), Matt Ricker 15th (18:14.14) and Josiah Leichty 25th (18:56.69), with Benjamin Leichty (50th, 20:08.14) rounding out the scoring for the Eagles.Jakob Zibbel led Elmwood, finishing 18th overall (18:30.15), while Zach Ward was 22nd (18:51.48) for Fostoria.In the Division II girls race, L-B bunched its top five runners well with Madi Gaerke placing eighth (20:18.09), Brenna Lay 10th, (20:39.54), Riley Irwin 11th (20:44.78), Emma Spears 17th (21:56.10) and Hannah Hiss 18th (22:00.74).Upper Sandusky, led by a 13th-place finish by Hope Morris (21:11.78) was seventh in the team standings.In the Division II girls competition, the top four teams and top 16 runners advanced. Fostoria's Jalicia Mendez earned that 16th and final individual qualifying spot with a time of 21:32.44. Close behind Koch, though were teammates Carson Closson (4th, 16:50.7), Roy Langhals (6th, 16:58.6), Bryce Bonifas (16:58.8) and Luke Ellerbrock (17:07.3). Grove finished with 26 points; Bluffton had 69, with Sam Derstine (19th, 18:34.8), Trey Boblitt (22nd, 18:40.9) and Liam Jordan (23rd, 18:41.2) following Armstrong and Nygaard.Hardin Northern just missed advancing to regional, finishing sixth (169). Two runners qualified for regional by placing among the top 20, however, with Aiden Gatchel placing 11th overall (17:20.2) and Zeb Wilson 13th (17:40.7).In one of two Division III districts hosted at Columbus Grove, Bluffton's June Essinger qualified for regional by placing seventh in the girls race with a time of 20:19.4. Leipsic's Lola Wensink also advanced by placing 16th overall (22:20.2).Columbus Grove also hosted a Division II district, and Ottawa-Glandorf's Alexa Fortman was the overall winner and led O-G's girls to a runner-up finish in the girls team standings.Fortman won her race in a time of 18:57.8. O-G's Madelyn Hovest was sixth (20:06.8) for the Titans, who scored 68 points to finish just back of Lima Shawnee (63).
