City begins curbside leaf pickup Nov. 17

The city of Findlay will begin curbside leaf pickup on Nov. 17, and continue through Dec. 3. City employees will collect leaves that have been placed in biodegradable paper bags at the curb. Plastic bags and loose leaves will not be picked up. Biodegradable bags are available at local hardware and building supply stores, and some grocery stores. Leaves should not be raked into the street, which is a violation of city law. Piles of leaves can be a danger to children who like to play in them. They also can interfere with traffic lanes, and wash into and clog storm sewers, causing maintenance issues and potential localized flooding during storm events, the city says. City residents may continue to drop off leaves at the green waste site at 330 N. Cory St. at no charge. Current hours for the site are 2-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The site is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Beginning Tuesday, hours for the site will be from 1-6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The site will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays. Beginning Nov. 20, Saturday hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The green waste site will be closed Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day; and on Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving. It will be open Nov. 26 and 27. The last day the green waste site will be open is Dec. 4. The site is intended for residential use only. No contractors are permitted to use it. Only tree trimmings, brush, leaves and grass clippings are accepted, and should be dumped at designated areas.
