FHS' Ireland, Luke Montgomery gain 1st-team all-Ohio honors

Findlay High's Ben Ireland and offensive tackle Luke Montgomery each earned first team honors when the Division I All-Ohio teams were announced Thursday. In addition, senior linebacker Sam Weihrauch was named to the second team. Ireland, who caught 53 passes for 751 yards and nine touchdowns this season, and was an all-state honorable mention in 2019 and 2020, was a key factor in the Trojans offense. Ireland, a 6-foot, 180-pound senior, hauled in nine touchdown passes in the regular season, then played a big role in the Trojans' postseason win over Miamisburg, catching a pair of touchdowns. He has received offers from Mid-American Conference schools as well as Valparaiso. . Montgomery is one of the top offensive line prospects in the country. He was an all-state selection as a defensive lineman as a freshman (honorable mention) and a sophomore (second team). He still plays on both sides of the ball, but transitioned to more of an offensive lineman this season, seeing time at guard, center and tackle. A junior, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Montgomery is a four-star recruit, and has been rated one of the top tackles in the country, with about 35 D-I offers. Interested schools include top programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Alabama. Weihrauch, one of the best defensive players on the Trojans this fall, had two sacks and 18 tackles for a loss. He forced three fumbles and had 115 total tackles.
