Findlay school board's agenda now online

Dynamic is not a word typically associated with school board agendas, but that's about to change for Findlay City Schools. The district went live with BoardDOCS on Friday afternoon. The link to the agenda is available on the district website, www.fcs.org. (Navigate to "District Information," then "Board of Education," then "Current Board Agenda.") BoardDOCS is a software created for municipalities, school districts and other government agencies, with a focus on agenda, policy, event, document and vote management, all organized in a searchable format. The system is also capable of recording and publishing board action in real time, meaning that as the vote is recorded, it will appear on BoardDOCS. Treasurer Pam Harrington, who was hired by Findlay City Schools in May, worked with BoardDOCS while serving as treasurer with her former employer, Perrysburg Schools. "It really is a great step toward becoming more transparent," said Harrington. "I think it will be a great benefit for Findlay City Schools, for the community, for everyone really. One of the good things is that it's very easy to learn and to use." The goal, Harrington said, is the regular release of the agenda by 6 p.m. on Friday prior to each meeting. "So this is our first one, and we're very excited to be moving forward with this," she said. "We're still learning it, but it's a way to get things out and be a little less choppy." Moving forward, the BoardDOCs link will provide centralized public access to a record of board agendas, votes and minutes. Eventually, all exhibits will also be made available through BoardDOCS. Exhibits not posted to the site can now be obtained by the public by emailing Meagan Brown, the district executive secretary, at mbrown@findlaycityschools.org. The Findlay City Schools Board of Education will hold its reorganizational meeting at 6 p.m. today in Room 310 of Washington Preschool/Findlay Learning Center building, 1100 Broad Ave. Monday's agenda is a long one, and includes a vote on the calendar for the 2022-23 school year. The proposed calendar includes a start date of Aug. 23 for all students. Fall break would be Nov. 21-25, and winter break would be Dec. 22-Jan. 2. The last day of school would be May 24. Commencement Day would be May 27. The board will also elect new officers, make committee appointments and set meeting dates during its reorganization.
