City landmark approved to become B&B

Findlay City Planning Commission on Thursday approved using a North Main Street house and landmark as a bed and breakfast. Chris Schmitz, of Minnesota, is proposing converting 2816 N. Main St. and its 4,200 square feet of living area to a bed and breakfast by late spring or early summer. He is hoping to close on purchasing the property from Ed Sartore, who has lived in the home for 32 years. "This is a perfect property for a bed and breakfast," Mayor Christina Muryn said. "The property is the right size. It won't disrupt the neighborhood." Schmitz would like to start the venture by having four bedrooms available. He also plans to reside on the property. Eventually, he would like to renovate the house to add a bathroom, which would enable him to use up to six bedrooms. The property has sufficient parking space, city officials said. Zoning change Separately, the planning commission recommended Findlay City Council rezone a vacant 8-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Main Street and Township Road 145 to enable construction of an assisted living, memory care and independent living villa community. The zoning change question ultimately would be considered by the council. The zoning for the parcel, just east of Senior Homes and Fox Run Manor, would change from C-2 General Commercial to M-2 Multi-Family, High Density. Wilin: 419-427-8413
