Findlay High hockey stops Padua

STRONGSVILLE –Findlay High's hockey team reached the championship game of the MLK Tournament at the OBM Arena in Strongsville this weekend. After winning its first two games there and stretching its unbeaten streak to 11 , the Trojans fell in the final, 5-2 to Olentangy Liberty. Ryker Featheringham and Ross Trenkamp scored goals in the final game, and Kellen Wetz and AJ Savage each had an assist and FHS goalkeeper Cody Mlsna made 30 saves. On Sunday against Shaker Heights, Findlay won 4-1, getting three goals from Featheringham and another from Michael Armstrong. Armstrong added two assists, while Featheringham and Matt Pinski added one each. Goalkeeper Seth Russell made 20 saves. On Saturday, Findlay High's took the lead with two goals in the second period and padded it with another score in the third in beating Padua 5-3. Ross Trenkamp scored two goals and Featheringham had a goal and an assist. Tyler Wolke and Jaden Halliday also found the back of the net.Ethan Lammers, Wetz and Armstrong all had two assists and Mason Greenawalt had one. Cody Mlsna made 18 saves to earn the win in goal. The Trojans stand at 13-7-4. They will play again Friday at the Cube, hosting Perrysburg at 7 p.m. Gymnasts fourthWORTHINGTON – Emmy Omlor placed third on bars, fourth on vault and ninth in the all-around scoring in leading Findlay High's gymnastics team to a fourth-place finish on Saturday in the Worthington Kilbourne Invitational. Omlor scored an 8.55 on the uneven bars and an 8.225 on vault. She had an all-around total of 32.65 points.Three other FHS gymnasts placed in the meet, which brings together many of the top prep programs in the Columbus area and serves as a good measuring stick as teams prepare for league and district competition. Poppy Link placed sixth on vault (8.10), Emma Mitani was seventh on bars (8.10) and Lily Perkins was ninth on the balance beam (8.35).Dublin Coffman won the 11-school meet with 134.200 points. Mitchell fifthOREGON — Findlay's Ethan Mitchell rallied from a first-round loss to win seven of his next eight matches and place fifth in the 138-pound weight division on Saturday in the Maumee Bay Classic Wrestling Tournament held at Oregon Clay High School.Mitchell's only setbacks in the two-day tournament were to Tiffin Columbian's Bret Minnick, Ohio's No. 1-ranked 138-pounder in Division II. Minnick decisioned Mitchell 6-3 in the first round, and 6-4 in the consolation semifinals.Following a bye in the first round of consolations, Mitchell won five of his seven matches by pin and beat three state-ranked opponents along the way. Ranked No. 7 in his division in Division I and now 21-7 on the season, Mitchell scored a 5-3 decision over No. 17-ranked Chase Crutchley of Medina Highland, pinned No. 22 Parker Frederick of Anthony Wayne, and, in the match for fifth and sixth place, earned a 6-2 decision over No. 19 Josh Takats of Perrysburg.Perrysburg amassed 254.5 points to outdistance Louisville (217.5) and take home the team title of the event, which included wrestlers from 52 schools. Rams sweepBUCYRUS – Upper Sandusky's Cade Rothlisberger had a hand in four meet records and the Rams swept both the boys and girls team titles at the Eagle Sprint Swim Meet hosted by Colonel Crawford on Saturday.Individually, Rothlisberger set meet records in winning the 50- (26.63) and 100-yard (58.43) backstroke events. He also joined Ethan Collins and Gage Frey on the record-setting 200 medley relay (1:48.17) with Jonah Voorheis and the 400 free relay (3:33.99) with Matthew Homburg.Frey also won 100 free (53.75) and Collins the 100 breast (1:07.13). UF men prevailASHLAND — Two free throws by Joey Edmonds, another by Brady Wildermuth and one final one from Tre'Maine Gray gave the University of Findlay just enough of an edge to hold off Ashland 56-54 on Saturday in a down-to-the-wire men's basketball matchup.Edmonds' two foul shots put UF 54-49 in the low-scoring contest. Wildermuth added a free throw with 1:33 to play and Gray hit his with eight seconds left. Edmonds finished with 12 points and Liberty-Benton grad Anthony Masterlasco, who had a key steal in the final minute, scored 10 and had a team-high eight rebounds.
