FCS treasurer offers school finance classes

Findlay City Schools Treasurer Pam Harrington will on Thursday host the first of four "School Finance 101" classes, a four-part series meant to make Ohio's system of school finance easier to understand. The class will be held at 6 p.m. at 50 North, 339 E. Melrose Ave., and is open to all ages. The class will be informal. Harrington, former chief financial offer for Perrysburg Exempted Village School District, was hired by the Findlay City Schools Board of Education in May, and she took over as district treasurer on Aug. 1. Harrington served as treasurer for Perrysburg Schools since 2016, and prior to that, as treasurer for Defiance City and Otsego schools. She is a former employee of Findlay City Schools, and at one time served as the district's Education Management Information System coordinator. It was during her tenure at Defiance City Schools that she developed the classes in the interest of transparency. On Thursday, she'll start offering the classes for the first time in Findlay. Thursday's class is expected to cover the basics, transparency, communications and the allocation of federal and local money. The remaining classes in the series will cover state funding and legislation, the impact of charter schools on district finances, and the growth and levy outlook.
