Symbols of SPPS

Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Ottawa has unveiled a new mosaic at the entrance of its new gymnasium. The mosaic, financed by an anonymous donor, is filled with symbols of school tradition. The creators of the piece came from Lourdes College in Toledo and include designer Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak, design and ceramic assistant Sr. Magdala Davlin, ceramic assistant Sr. Maria Spino and ceramic installer Hans Klinck. The colors displayed in the mosaic incorporate the original school colors, blue and white, as well as the current color, green. The Catholic faith is represented by a large cross in the center of the mosaic, placed below a dove, as all are continually guided by the Holy Spirit. The tradition of Sts. Peter and Paul being led by Precious Blood priests is symbolized with a chalice. A textbook opens as a reminder of the education that has occurred from generation to generation at the school, with an emphasis placed on religion. Also included is the school's mascot, the mighty knight, guiding against the battle of sin and leading to victory, heaven.
