Oiler women avenge loss to Cedarville, win by 10

CEDARVILLE — After falling to Ohio Dominican on Saturday, the University of Findlay women's basketball team got back in the win column on Monday, knocking off Cedarville 68-58.Ottoville-grad Bridget Landin paced the Oilers, going 11 of 14 from the floor for a game-high 24 points with 12 rebounds. Sydney Kin finished with a double-double as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 boards. The Yellow Jackets were led by Emily Chapman and Paige Garr, who each scored 11 points. Holding Chapman to just 11 points was certainly a win for UF's defense. In the first game between the two, she finished with 29 points. CU shot just 31.7 percent from the floor and 12 of 42 from behind the 3-point line. The Oilers outscored Cedarville 44-16 in the paint and grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds while allowing just 23 rebounds to the Yellow Jackets. The Oilers will look to keep that momentum going into Wednesday—barring weather—against Hillsdale on the road at 5:30 p.m. The Chargers are scoring 72.7 points (3rd in the G-MAC) and are allowing 69.5 (8th in the conference) per game.They're led by the play of Grace Touchette, who's averaging a team-high 17.5 points on 49-percent shooting. Sydney Mills averages a double-double through 19 games, scoring 12.3 points and hauling down 10.6 rebounds per game. Then on Saturday, the Oilers and the Chargers face off yet again. In Monday's game against Cedarville, the University of Findlay men's basketball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to a sudden halt, losing 89-57. The Yellow Jackets did little wrong against the Oilers, making 14 3s, shooting 30-of-60 from the floor while holding UF to just 19-of-48. Grant Whisman led all scorers, finishing with 21 points off the bench for CU. Quinton Green finished with 14 points and four boards.The Yellow Jackets forced Findlay into 15 turnovers and scored 21 points off of those mistakes. They also outscored UF's bench 48-25. Brady Wildermuth and Nate Bruns paced the Oilers with nine points apiece. Findlay will look to start a new win streak Wednesday when it travels to Lake Erie College to face the Storm. Ironically enough, Wednesday's game could be postponed because of a storm. If the weather holds off long enough, the Oilers will go up against the eighth-ranked offense in the conference. The Storm (9-9, 3-8 G-MAC) average 70.9 points on offense. Lake Erie is solid defensively as well, giving up just 68.3 points per contest (4th in the G-MAC) Lake Erie is led by Jordan Burton's team-high 14.0 points and 4.4 assists per game. Jonny Manning averages 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds. That game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. The Oilers come back home Saturday to face Hillsdale and its all-American Patrick Cartier at 3 p.m. Hillsdale (15-4, 10-3 G-MAC) has been at or near the top of the conference for most of the season and it's easy to see why. Defense. It's allowing just 64.1 points per game, which is second in the conference behind Ashland.Cartier is averaging 22.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 63-percent shooting.
