Findlay High gymnasts claim TRAC championship

TOLEDO — By the slimmest of margins the Three Rivers Athletic Conference gymnastics championship trophy found its way back to Findlay on Friday.Emmy Omlor was all-around runner-up and two other FHS gymnasts had top-10 all-around placings as the Trojans nipped Toledo St. Ursula by .650 of a point to claim the 2021-22 league title at Exceleration Gym in Toledo.Findlay finished with 132.850 team points. St. Ursula had 132.200. Toledo Notre Dame, which had won four straight TRAC titles coming into this season, was third (131.600), Oregon Clay fourth (115.800) and Toledo Whitmer fifth (79.350).Omlor defended her TRAC title in the vault, scoring 8.750 to win that event for the second straight year.Omlor was second on the uneven bars (8.400) third on balance beam (8.700) and fifth on floor 8,650 for a 34.500 all-around total. St. Ursula's Cali Mitchey was the TRAC all-around champion with 35.300 points.Emily Perkins was eighth and Olivia Laird ninth in the all-around standings. Perkins was fifth on beam (8.600), seventh on floor (8.550) and eighth on bars (7.850). Laird was fourth on floor (8.700), seventh on beam (8.300) and eighth on vault (7.750).Emma Mitani and Gabrielle Doering placed well in two events in helping Findlay win its sixth TRAC championship overall, but its first since 2017. Mitani was fourth on vault (8.100) and sixth on floor (8.600); Doering was seventh on vault (7.800) and eighth on floor (8.500).Also for Findlay, Makayla May placed fourth on bars (8.250) and Poppy Link was fifth on vault (7.950).Findlay will return to Exceleration Gym on Feb. 25 for the OHSAA district competition. FHS hockey completes unbeaten home slate with win on senior night It was Senior Night for Findlay High's hockey team Friday, and FHS senior Michael Armstrong made the most of it. He scored two goals as the Trojans completed an unbeaten home slate with a 6-1 win over Anthony Wayne. Another senior, Jason Yammine, added a goal and an assist as FHS improved to 18-7-4, and 11-0-1 at the Cube. Trojans' coach Ben Patey said it's the first time in program history FHS hasn't lost a home game in a season. Ross Trenkamp and Mason Greenawalt each added a goal for FHS, while AJ Savage scored his first career goal, and also had an assist. Seniors Ryker Featheringham (3) and Jaden Halliday added assists. The Trojans also got an assist from Sam Swisher. Findlay used a pair of senior goalies Friday, with Tim Whitehead recording six saves and Cody Mlsna collecting five.
