Man sentenced for role in fatal shooting

SANDUSKY — A Madison Street resident will spend at least the next 12 years in state prison for his involvement in a deadly shooting on Dewey Street. Johnathan Donald, 19, was sentenced to a 12-to 16-year prison term in Judge Beverly McGookey's court on Tuesday at Erie County Common Pleas Court. Donald will serve time for an aggravated robbery conviction that stems from a shooting death in 2019. Donald and another Sandusky resident, Bren'Davion Durr, were arrested by Sandusky police after De'Yon Hill, 21 was found severely wounded, sitting in a car parked near Dewey Street. Hill had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Donald, who was only 17 when he was arrested, was indicted on complicity to aggravated murder, complicity to aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, aggravated robbery and complicity. Donald pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery on Nov. 3. He was given a nine-to 13-and-a-half-year sentence with a three-year gun specification, and he could potentially serve up to 16-and-a-half years. Durr, 23, pleaded guilty to murder and having weapons under disability on Oct. 13. He was also sentenced by McGookey to life with parole eligibility in 31 years. Donald has almost 800 days of jail credit which includes 408 at the Erie County Juvenile Justice Center, where he was held while he was still a minor. He will serve his sentence in a state prison in Grafton, Ohio
