Findlay Superintendent Roth announces plan to resign

Superintendent Troy Roth kept remarks about his impending resignation short at Monday's regular meeting of the Findlay City Schools Board of Education. The Bellevue City Schools Board of Education is expected to vote Wednesday to hire Roth as the district's next superintendent. He will start the new position on Aug. 1. Roth called the Findlay School District "a special place" on Monday, and said he is proud of it. He said he has appreciated the opportunity to serve and be part of the district for the past seven years. He said an official letter of resignation is forthcoming. Located in northcentral Ohio, Bellevue's student population, at about 2,000, is less than half that of Findlay City Schools, which is about 5,500. While there were no comments made by board members following his remarks, board President Matthew R. Cooper sent out a district-wide email to staff members on Friday telling them about Roth's plans to resign. "He informed me that his decision was based on the needs of his family, and I understand and respect his decision," Cooper said in the notice to staff. "I am very thankful for Mr. Roth's service here in the Findlay City School District and the things that we have been able to accomplish together during a very difficult time for all school districts." Cooper called Roth's leadership "critical during this time." "I appreciate the time, effort, and passion that he has poured into the Findlay Community and most importantly, our district," Cooper said. Cooper said the board would discuss plans to hire the district's next superintendent during an executive session that followed Monday's meeting. Roth was named superintendent of Findlay City Schools in March 2020. He had previously served as assistant superintendent for Findlay schools since 2015. From 2011 to 2015, Roth served as principal for Margaretta Middle School, Castalia. From 2002 to 2011, he was the assistant principal/athletic director for the school. He worked as the effective schools co-coordinator and assistant athletic director at Margaretta middle and high schools from 2001 to 2002. Grant: 419-427-8412
