Municipal Court offers chance to resolve open warrants

Those facing a warrant for their arrest will be able to address their legal issues without immediately going to jail on Safe Surrender Day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at Findlay Municipal Court. On that day, those who have a bench warrant for their arrest, regardless of the reason, will have it addressed by court staff and released. Defendants with active bench warrants can call ahead to 419-424-7141 to make an appointment with the court to resolve their legal issues with court staff. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins will also be welcome. Examples of how court-related issues will be resolved are as follows: • Those who failed to attend a court hearing will be seen by court staff at their appointment. • Individuals who failed to perform community service will be reassigned to a work location. If the individual missed a community service contempt hearing, the hearing will be rescheduled to allow the person time to complete the community service. • Individuals who did not complete counseling for mental health or substance abuse will have their appointments rescheduled. • Individuals who did not attend a status conference will meet with court staff to review their financial ability to pay outstanding fines and to establish a new payment plan. • Individuals who did not report to serve a jail sentence will be issued a new date to report. Upon reporting to the court by appointment during Safe Surrender Day, the person's warrant will be lifted and recalled from law enforcement. The opportunity will only be available for one day, so municipal court officials urge people to call ahead to take advantage of their opportunity.
