FHS tennis runs record to 10-1

TOLEDO – Findlay High's No. 1 doubles team of Nick Simmermeyer and Arda Dastan rallied from a first-set setback to beat Mateo Gomez-Castro and Zach Ammonett 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 on Wednesday and complete the Trojans 5-0 sweep of Toledo St. Francis in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys tennis match. Findlay ran its overall record to 10-1 and remained unbeaten in league matches at 5-0. The Trojans face Toledo Central Catholic in a TRAC match today at the FHS Courts, and will host the Trojan Invite on Saturday. Besides the marathon match at No. 1 doubles, Findlay took the other four matches in straight sets. In singles, Max Hosey (No. 1) beat Nick Miller 6-4, 6-0, Austin Asada (No. 2) scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ethan Little and Mac Robertson (No. 3) topped Drew Bertke 6-1, 6-2. Sam Swisher and Haden Harris beat Owen Little and Thomas Anders by that same 6-1, 6-2 margin at No. 2 doubles. (14-sub head) Armstrong all-Ohio COLUMBUS – Findlay High's Michael Armstrong, a senior forward on the Trojans' hockey team, has been accorded second-team all-Ohio honors by the Ohio High School Hockey Coaches Association. Armstrong scored 24 goals and had 18 assists this past season in leading Findlay to a 20-9-4 record and runner-up finish in the Northwest Hockey Conference Red Division behind state-ranked Toledo St. Francis. Armstrong was named the NHC Red Division Plyer of the year this season, and was honorable mention all-Ohio in 2020-21.
