Findlay Country Club to host AJGA Preview

Findlay Country Club has hosted some major tournaments over the years. This spring, the iconic local course can add another to that impressive list. For the first – but likely not the last – time FCC is hosting an American Junior Golf Association Preview that will include not only some of the top junior golfers in the country, but is open to golfers from around the world as well. "The AJGA reached out to us and inquired if we would be interested in hosting," said Chad Bain, Chief Operating Officer of the Findlay Country Club. "This is a 'preview' in hopes that both parties may be interested in a future event." Findlay Country Club's history of hosting and expertly handling premier events like U.S. Open qualifiers, Ohio Amateur, Open, Junior, Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur championships, and the NCAA Division II Women's National Championship, likely played a part in the AJGA selecting the course for this event. "The AJGA is arguably the largest golf organization promoting junior golf in the world," said Tiffin University golf coach Jacob Miller, who participated in AJGSA events during his junior years in the sport. "I was fortunate enough to compete bin a few of their events during my days playing junior golf and it really helped me get ready for golf at the next level." According to its homepage, "The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. AJGA alumni include Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Ariya Jutanugarn, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome and Anna Nordqvist," among others. The AFGA event being staged at FCC this weekend, as well as the other 13 Preview events on the 2022 schedule are "designed specifically for members who have not yet played in an AJGA tournament. This series, conducted primarily during the spring, offers these new and returning members the opportunity to start building Performance Based Entry status before application deadlines arrive for summer Open and AJGA Junior All-Star Series events." This preview will also serve as a fundraising opportunity to support local youth, with the Millstream Career Center being chosen as the recipient of any funds raised during the event. The field for the AJGA Preview at FCC will feature 78 boys and girls (ages 12-19), including many of the top junior golfers from around the Midwest, across the country and possibly even from overseas. Like PGA and LPGA Tour events, the event began with an 18-hole qualifying tournament on Friday. The final 36 holes will be contested today and Sunday.
