UF Men's golf advance to NCAA championships

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The University of Findlay men's golf team survived drenching rains and a soggy course to place fifth on Saturday in the Midwest/Central Regional and earn the school its first-ever trip to the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship. After rounds of 297 and 298, UF carded a 301 on Saturday at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. The Oilers' 896 team total allowed them to edge McKendree University by two strokes for the fifth and final qualifying spot advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship to be held May 16-20 at the TPC Michigan Course. Findlay had qualified for the NAIA National Golf championship in 1999, but never before as an NCAA Division II program. "It was a total team effort," Findlay coach Dominic Guarnieri was quoted after the meet. "This is a testament to the time and effort they have put in. Not only the five men who traveled, but all seventeen of them. It was a hard week on the course but they never stopped fighting. Coach Roth and I are so proud of them… we made history today." Parker Haynes led UF with a 73-72-75—220 total over the three-day tournament. Tanner Grzegorczyk (72-76-74) was at 222, Donnie Professori (76-75-76) carded a 227 and Brock Kehres (77-75-76) had a 228, Fifth-man Justin Atkinson (76-83-77) posted a 236. Also advancing to the nationals from the Midwest/Central region were Grand Valley State, Central Missouri University, Arkansas Tech, the University of Indianapolis and the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Walsh tops Oiler lacrosse in G-MAC final NORTH CANTON – The University of Findlay's women's lacrosse season ended on Saturday with a 17-6 loss to Walsh in the championship game of the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament. Danielle Dilorenzo scored three goals and Kandra Lindell had two for UF. Ashleigh Lesser had the other goal, with Adriana Santucci and Alyson Lillibridge getting assists. Rachel Bornstein made 12 saves in goal for the Oilers, who end their season 11-7. Oilers bumped out of G-MAC tourney The winningest softball season in University of Findlay history may have come to an end on Saturday when the Oilers fell 5-1 to Trevecca Nazarene and 4-3 to Ohio Dominican and were eliminated from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament. After opening the tournament with two solid wins on Thursday, then having Friday's game rained out, UF faced Trevecca Nazarene in the winners' bracket final on Saturday. Trevecca Nazarene took charge early, though, building a 5-0 lead and holding on for the win. Hoping to rebound through the consolation bracket, UF forged a 3-2 lead on Ohio Dominican and held that edge in the bottom of the sixth inning. ODU staged a two-out rally, though, loading the bases on a walk, a beaned batter and an infield single before a costly throwing error allowed two runs to score. Ohio Dominican then turned it over to Sydney Long, the G-MAC Pitcher of the Year who shut Findlay down in the top of the seventh to earn the Panthers a spot in Sunday's GMAC championship game. The two losses dropped UF's record top 36-14. The Oilers were ranked seventh in the last regional poll, and can still qualify for NCAA Division II postseason play. A key factor will be the outcome of the G-MAC tournament. Pairings for the postseason playoffs will be announced Monday. In the most recent rankings, UF was ranked No.7 and the top eight teams make it. UF baseball drops a pair; falls short of G-MAC tourney bid COLUMBUS — Coming into Sunday's games against Ohio Dominican, the University of Findlay baseball team was a half-game back of Walsh for the sixth and final spot in the Great Midwestern Athletic Conference tournament with four games to play.After Sunday's results, which were both losses by the Oilers, Findlay's postseason aspirations are down the drain.Findlay dropped a pair to Ohio Dominican, 9-8 and 6-4, clinching the final spot for Walsh.The Oilers were up, 6-2, through seven innings before ODU put up a five-spot in the eight to go up, 7-6.UF answered back with two runs to make it 8-7, but the Panthers answered the call again in the bottom of the ninth.It stayed tied until the 12th inning when Dominican's Gianni Passarelli hit the pinch-hit RBI single.Aiden Lao smacked a homer in the top of the fourth and had a double.The tale of the tape was runners left on base—Findlay had 14 of them in game one.In game two, the Oilers led in the top of the fourth after Nolan O'Connell singled in Ryan O'Malley, making it 1-0.It was the last time Findlay (17-30, 12-16 G-MAC) led as ODU scored four in the bottom half of the fourth and never looked back and picked up the 6-4 win.The Oilers will wrap up their season today when they finish the four-game series with Dominican.
