Library plans SummerREAD fun

SummerREAD activities will be offered for all ages starting today at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Several activity kits will be available for patrons to take home. A summer boredom busters kit contains ocean-themed crafts and activities, while a SummerREAD craft kit and teen make-and-take kit are also available. The craft kit includes materials to make a merperson puppet and weave a fish, as well as songs and book recommendations. The teen kit has cutouts and aquatic backgrounds to be assembled into a collage. Family Storytime at the Library will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Lindamood Room. The Fifth-Third Bank Financial Empowerment Mobile will stop by the library from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday to assist participants with viewing their credit report, brushing up on fraud awareness and learning more about home ownership. The mobile will be parked on Broadway Street in front of the library. Miss Nicole will present Storytime at the Library at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the Lindamood Room. The theme is mermania. Attendees will hear stories about mermaids and participate in sea-loving songs and rhymes. Makerspace will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lindamood Room. Participants can drop by anytime until 3:30 p.m. to learn how to make different types of bookmarks. Participants will have the opportunity to donate their bookmarkers to local senior citizens through the United Way of Hancock County's Senior Cheer program. Teen book bingo will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Lindamood Room. Baby Storytime at the Library will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Friday in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and bells. Comics Club is a new program that begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lindamood Room. Kids who love comics, manga and graphic novels can come and socialize with others that have similar interests and learn more about the genre. Register through the calendar tab at findlaylibrary.org Members of the Bows & Blasters Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Blanchard Room to discuss "Blackfish City," by Sam J. Miller. Also at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Kirsten Seele, dietitian and certified health and well-being coach from Northwest Ohio Orthopedics, will lead participants in a discussion about nutrition myths. The talk will be held in the Lindamood Room. Gibbs, a licensed therapy dog, will return at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the children's department to help children practice reading aloud. Participants will receive one-on-one time with Gibbs and his trainer as a way to work on reading strength and confidence. Local veterans will present Conversations of Honor at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Lindamood Room. Those attending will hear stories from and learn more about these military heroes. A program on the properties of water will be held for children in kindergarten through second grade at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Richard S. "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, 1400 Oakwoods Lane. Registration is required. Register to be part of SummerRead at findlaylibrary.readsquared.com
