Good Hope Lutheran ARLINGTON — Good Hope Lutheran Church, Arlington, will celebrate Pentecost by offering Holy Communion at all three worship services: 5 p.m. today and 7:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school for all ages is offered at 9. The senior choir will provide special music for its last anthem for the summer season at the 10 a.m. service. The men of the congregation will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday. "National Park VBS 2022" kicks off Monday and runs from 9-11 a.m. daily through Friday. All children in preschool through sixth grade are invited, and participants will sing at the 10 a.m. June 12 worship service, followed by a cookout. First Lutheran First Lutheran Church continues its summer schedule with one service at 9:30 a.m. Sundays. The church will celebrate Pentecost, with Senior Pastor the Rev. Robert C. Cochran preaching on Acts 2:1-21, and Holy Communion will be served. The First Lutheran Brass will play "Come Thou, Holy Spirit" by P. Tschesnokoff as an offertory, and the senior choir will sing "A Mighty Rushing Wind" by Patti Drennan. The church hosts this week's community dinner Sunday, featuring griddled hot dogs, baked beans, fresh fruit, homemade salads and desserts, along with Panera Bread. The book club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church lounge to discuss this month's selection, "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. Lutheran Social Services' requests for this month are paper towels, laundry detergent, shampoo and coffee; items can be placed in the cart by the elevator. First Presbyterian First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., will host its Pentecost celebration at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. During worship, the congregation will be commissioning participants for their upcoming mission trip to New Orleans and blessing backpacks that will be distributed at Camp Fun. Christian Dittmar will lead worship, First Communion and confirmation at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 9340 Township Road 32, Jenera, as Pentecost is observed. Traditional worship begins at 9 a.m., followed by small-group study for all ages at 10:15. Confirmation will be held during contemporary worship at 11:15 for Jonathan Coldren, Emily Hirt, Jamie Kemerley and Joseph Leisure. St. Marks UM The Rev. Dan Metzger will begin a new sermon series at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 800 S. Main St., titled "Breaking Bread with Jesus" at both the 9 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services. Ruth Circle will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, and Lydia Circle will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Children and Families Ministry has organized a "Nerf Battle Royale" for the dads and kids of the church; families must be registered to attend. Bigelow Ave., will celebrate Pentecost with the color red (to symbolize the Holy Spirit) and with hymns that reflect the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Christine Reasoner will play her harp to accompany two selections: "Be Thou My Vision" and "Morning Has Broken." All who attend are reminded to wear red. The single service at 9 a.m. will be livestreamed and available on YouTube. Wednesday evening service will be at 6:30. Vacation Bible School at Trinity will be "Monumental," from 6-8 p.m. daily, June 20-23. Children who are registered are invited to a free dinner from 5:30-5:55 each night.
