L-B's Garlock, H-L's Bour lead area all-state selections

One of the area's best pitchers and one of the best catchers each earned first-team all-Ohio honors when the Prep Baseball Report's all-state teams were announced Thursday.Liberty-Benton hurler Kam Garlock, who went 7-0 with a 0.30 earned run average, was named to the Division III first team.Garlock struck out 53 batters while only walking eight, and opposing batters hit just .123 against him.Garlock also was formidable at the plate. He hit .380, drove in 26 runs and stole 14 bases.Meanwhile, Hopewell-Loudon backstop Ashton Bour earned first-team accolades in Division IV. Bour hit .455 this season with 11 doubles, 32 runs scored and 23 RBIs.Bour had a .515 on-base percentage hitting one home run and stealing eight bases.Two of Bour's Chieftain teammates were named to the second team in Division IV.Eric Hoover, who hit .417 and drove in 33 runs, made the second team, as did pitcher Tyson Swanagan, who was 5-1 with a 1.31 earned run average.Another area second team selection came from Division III, in Riverdale's Evan Reiter.Reiter hit .566 with two homers, a stunning .673 on-base percentage, and five triples.All the other area all-state selections were honorable mentions.In Division I, Findlay High outfielder Sam Weihrauch and two-way player Ben Best made the list.Weihrauch hit .426 and scored 25 runs for the Trojans, while Best hit .397 and plated 22 runners.He was just as good on the mound, going 6-1 with a 1.39 earned run average and 42 strikeouts.Carter Duling of Ottawa-Glandorf was the one area all-state selection from Division II. He went 4-1 with a 1.44 ERA this season.In Division IV, McComb's Camden Glaser, a pitcher who struck out 78 batters in 41 innings, was named all-Ohio honorable mention, as was Carey's Jordan Vallejo.Vallejo hit .429 with three homers for the Blue Devils, while also recording a 1.37 earned run average on the mound, striking out 72 batters in 53 1/3 innings.New Riegel's Brody Hohman and Shane Jones also made the honorable mention list.
