Sexy party raises concerns

DANBURY TWP. — An adults-only party is coming to Danbury in August, and township residents are not happy about it. The 1st Ever Ohio FreakNik, a ticketed event for adults who are at least 21 years old, is set to occur at The Watering Hole Safari and Waterpark, formerly Monsoon Lagoon. Videos the group has posted to social media include nude women twerking, scantily-clad people grinding and pole dancing. Danbury Township police Chief Michael Meisler said residents began texting him as soon as the flier was posted online. "They don't want it," he said. "It's not necessary. It's not needed. They need to take that somewhere else." Meisler said potentially more than several hundred people would attend and engage in sexual behavior. He said there's an increased chance of criminal activity with this type of party. "Logistically, we aren't a township capable of hosting this event," he said. Watering Hole manager Bill Colburn stated the private event should be limited to 450 people. When asked what security the event will have, Colburn said, "We (will) have a mix of everything." He stated he has not heard concerns from any residents. He also said the same group hosted this event last year in Danbury Township and there were no problems. A flier for the event says a ticket gets a person access to the entire water park and the safari. Also included are unlimited miniature golf and go-karting. VIP access comes with six tickets and allows people to skip the entry line. They also get a bottle of liquor and free food. There will also be a "twerk olympics hour" and a "topless pool party hour." Tickets started at $100, and VIP packages were available for up to $1,200. Danbury zoning administrator Kathryn Dale said her department had no comment on the event. Emails to Ottawa County commissioners were not returned as of Friday evening.
