Old Stoney Ledge eyeing improvements

The owner of Old Stoney Ledge, at the corner of Howard Street and Broad Avenue, is weighing either renovating the bar or demolishing and rebuilding it. Findlay City Planning Commission on Thursday recommended Findlay City Council grant a zoning change for 909 Broad Ave., just north of the bar, related to planned improvements. The property, which has a house, was recently purchased by Old Stoney owner Darrin Karcher for the planned improvements. Karcher plans to combine the Old Stoney Ledge and 909 Broad Ave. into one parcel for site improvements and additional parking. Karcher would like to renovate the Old Stoney building, but contractors are concerned about the feasibility of that, given the building was constructed about 1890. "We don't know what would be better because the building is so old, whether we just demolish and rebuild or try to renovate," Karcher said. Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn, chairman of the planning commission, endorsed Karcher's ideas. "Certainly the Old Stoney is a Findlay staple," she said.
