Countdown to Football: Arcadia

Arcadia 2021 RECORD: 3-7 overall, 3-5 Blanchard Valley Conference KEY GAME: Week one, home opener, vs. Hardin Northern. This game won't count in any league standings, but it could definitely be a litmus test for the 2022 season. Arcadia started the 2021 season 0-4, but went 3-3 the rest of the way with one of the youngest rosters (four seniors) in the BVC. Arcadia coach Ethan Percer has made a concerted effort to get his team bigger and stronger this season. Opening at home with a win against a competitive Hardin Northern opponent would not only validate that physical preparedness, but would be a huge boost mentally as well. PLAYOFF HISTORY: Arcadia has made two playoff appearances, the first in 2011 and the second two years ago. The 2020 trip to post-season play carries with an asterisk because, due to COVID, the OHSAA determined that every team in the state, if it so desired, qualified for the playoffs. The Redskins are 0-2 in post-season play, falling 51-0 to Leipsic in 2011 and 34-7 to Edon in 2020. INTERESTING FACT: Arcadia fielded its first team when Wilbur Beane put together an interscholastic squad back in the fall of 1922, making this the Redskins 100th year of football. There is no record, though, of how the Redskins did that first year. Robert Runyon guided Arcadia to an outright (6-0-1) Hancock County League championship in 1932 and a share of the league crown a year later.
