VB's Recker 2nd, Findlay girls runner-up at Trojan Invite

ARLINGTON – Led by tournament medalist Sydney Deal, Perrysburg posted a 344 team total on Monday to edge Findlay (348), Lexington (351) and Van Buren (353) in a tight race for the title of the 12-school Lady Trojan Invitational held at Arlington's Sycamore Springs Golf Course Deal, who fired a 10-under 62 as medalist of the Edison Invitational last week, carded a 3-under 69 on Monday. Ava Metz and Natalie Gutman, a sophomore and a freshman on a senior-dominated Findlay High team, led the Trojans. Both shot 84s, with Gutman's round including a hole-out eagle 2 on the par 4 ninth hole, her second eagle of the season. Casey Tate and Libby Holman carded 90s to complete Findlay's total. Van Buren's Claire Recker fired a 79 and was medalist runner-up. Joslyn Hunt added an 85, Maggie Wehrle an 89 and Addyson Adams a 100. (14-sub head) Miles leads Trojans COLUMBUS – Noah Miles carded an 80 on Tuesday, Payson Dotson shot and 84 and Nick Feighner added an 87 in leading Findlay's boys golf team in the American-Italian Classic played at the York Golf Club in Columbus. Matt Pinski completed Findlay's 341 score with a 90. Sam Swisher (94) rounded out the lineup for the Trojans, who are back in Columbus today to take part in the Dublin Invitational at the Golf Club of Dublin. (14-sub head) L-B places fifth OTTAWA – Led by top-ten medalist placings by CJ Beeman and AJ Iliff, Liberty-Benton posted a 338 team total on Monday in placing fifth in a field of 19 teams at the Patriot Invitational, hosted by Patrick Henry and held at Pike Run Golf Course. Beeman and Ilff both carded 81, Jarrett Haan shot an 87 and Jake Gerken an 89. Napoleon won the event with a 318 total, Kalida edged Ottoville in a fifth-man playoff for second after both teams finished at 332, and Swanton (334) edged L-B for fourth. Leipsic was tenth (350) behind an 80 by Brevin Brandt and Pandora-Gilboa 11th (362) with Owen Huffman's 83 leading the way. Patrick Henry's Jaxson Guelde tied for fifth in the medalist standings with a 77 for the Patriots who were 12thh overall (365). McComb's Carter Welty fired an 82 and the Panthers were 17th (395) in the team standings. Columbus Grove finished 16th (389).
