School spirit

Findlay City School District welcomed back teachers and staff during a convocation ceremony Monday morning in the auditorium at Findlay High School. Staff members from the district's 12 schools gathered to celebrate the school year with the school's mascot, Tommy Trojan, as well as student members of the school's steel band Pantasia, the band and cheerleaders. Speakers included city of Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn, Interim Superintendent Krista Crates-Miller and Interim Assistant Superintendent Michael Scoles. Nolan Marx, with Franklin Covey Co., gave a presentation about how various teachers and school staff interactions he had over his school years made deep impacts on how he lives his life. Awards were also presented to staff members during the event, based on nominations from the 2021-22 school year. Winners included: Carah Alvarez, Classified Employee of the Year; Tyler Smith, FHS/Millstream Teacher of the Year; Angie Emans, Middle School Teacher of the Year; Daniell Flick, Elementary Teacher of the Year; Ben Kirian, The Kathy Kapostasy Award; and Karen Ouwenga, The Mandy Friar of the Year Award.
