Southview rallies late to forge 2-2 tie with Trojans

FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;2 SOUTHVIEW 2 SYLVANIA – Findlay High's girls soccer team was just minutes away from its first win of the season on Wednesday. But Sylvania Southview staged a stunning rally in the final four minutes of the match to forge a 2-2 tie with the Trojans. Taylor Nichols' goal off an assist from Corinne Seager and a score by Daryna Yurchenk off a pass from Layla Tiell had Findlay ahead 2-0 at the half. It stayed that way until Southview scored in the 76th minute. Two minutes later, the Cougars got the equalizer. Southview had a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal. Findlay keeper Zoe McCormick made three saves for the Trojans (0-1-1). Leading Findlay defensively were Olivia Gayhart and Madilyn Stechschulte with 22 recoveries each. Gabby Ritzler had 19 recoveries and McCormick 15. (agate) JUNIOR VARSITY: Findlay 5-0. (14-sub head) Volleyball MAUMEE &emsp;&emsp;3 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;1 MAUMEE – Findlay High's volleyball team rallied for a clutch second-set win on Wednesday. But Maumee answered with two close wins of its own in posting a 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 win over the Trojans. Kelsie Ritzler and Ava Buddelmeyer led Findlay with 11 kills each. Olivia Smith (2 blocks) had six kills and Taylor Hudson (2 blocks) and Jillian Nicholson both had five. Nicholson also led the Trojans with 17 assists, with Erin Caton adding 12. Molly Crates had a team-high 25 digs, Avery Roach added 12 and Addie Roach had 11. Still looking for its first win of the season, Findlay (0-4) will join Worthington Kilbourne in a three-team event at Marysville on Saturday. JUNIOR VARSITY: Findlay 25-23, 25-14. FRESHMEN: Findlay 25-12, 25-9. (14-sub head) Metz leads Trojans Ava Metz earned medalist honors with a 42 in leading Findlay to a commanding win over Fremont Ross in a girls golf match held Wednesday at the Findlay Country Club. Casey Tate and Natalie Gutman fired 49s and Libby Holman carded a 50 to complete Findlay's 190 team total. Hadley Rios had a 57 for Fremont Ross (251). (14-sub head) Tennis team falls Findlay won matches and third singles and first double on Wednesday, but Sylvania Northview took the other three matches in beating the Trojans 3-2 in competition held at the FHS Tennis Courts. At No. 3 singles, Tabitha Cap won a first-set tie-breaker en route to a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Mia Kennard and Ava Roach posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans, 2-4 on the season.
