Willow get 1,000th kill in Eagles 53rd straight BVC win

VOLLEYBALL L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp; 3 VAN BUREN 0 Karis Willow and Liberty-Benton's volleyball team both notched a couple of major milestones on Wednesday when the Eagles opened Blanchard Valley Conference play with a straight-set 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 win over Van Buren. Willow, a 6-foor-4 senior who will play college volleyball for nationally-ranked Penn State, was 30-for-37 spiking with 24 kills and 14 digs. Late in L-B's third-set win, Willow achieved her 1,000th-career kill. Lauren Gerken was 15-for-15 spiking with 10 kills, Jada Todd was 34-for-34 setting with 18 assists and Alyssa Hanni-Wells was 14-for-14 serving and had 14 assists. Claire Spiess had 10 digs, Kaytlin Erdeljac added six and Sophia Barbara had three blocks and three kills as L-B, 5-1 overall and the defending Division III state champion, ran its BVC winning streak to 53 consecutive matches. JUNIOR VARSITY: Liberty-Benton, 25-81, 25-10, PERRYSBURG 3 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg ended the four-match winning streak of Findlay High's volleyball team on Wednesday, sweeping the Trojans 25-11, 25-16, 25-11 in straight sets, Kelsie Ritzler collected seven kills and Ava Buddelmeyer had six for Findlay (4-5). Molly Crates led the Trojans with 11 digs and Jillian Nicholson had nine assists. JUNIOR VARSITY: Findlay, 25-14, 25-24. FRESHMEN: Findlay, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20. MCCOMB &emsp;&emsp;3 RIVERDALE&emsp;&emsp;0 MCCOMB – McComb got stat-stuffing nights from Anna Threet and Brooklynn Downing in beating Riverdale 25-17, 25-16, 25-11 on Wednesday in a straight-set Blanchard Valley Conference opener for both teams. Downing was 10-for-11 serving with four aces, 14-for-14 hitting with eight kills and four blocks and added five digs. Threet was 5-for-7 serving with two aces, 11-for-11 hitting with seven kills and a block and had nine assists and eight digs. Lydia Dehart (2 blocks) had five kills and Miranda Wells (4 blocks), Emma Wells (2 blocks) and Kacey Like (13-14 hitting) had four kills each. Madison Schroeder had 17 digs and Grace Hassan (12-13 serving, 3 aces) was 21-for-23 setting with nine assist and seven digs. McComb will compete in the Fostoria Invitational on Saturday. ARLINGTON 3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;0 ARCADIA – Arlington started strong and got stronger as the match went on in opening its BVC volleyball season with a straight-set 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 win over Arcadia. Madi Russell served up five aces and had 22 assists for Arlington. Alyssa Launder had seven kills, Gabby Schutz (3 blocks) had five and Adria Below came up with 13 digs. Arcadia's Alexis Kimble was 9-of-13 spiking with four kills and Olivia Yoakam had five aces and six digs. Lizzie Reineck led he Redskins with nine digs, while Cassidy Boes was 32 of 36 setting with five assists. JUNIOR VARSITY: Arlington, 26-25, 25-19. PANDORA-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 NORTH BALTIMORE 0 NORTH BALTIMORE – Pandora-Gilboa's Corrin Luginbill was 12 of 17 hitting with six kills, three blocks and four aces and Makayla Suter was 15 of 19 spiking with four kills and two blocks as the Rockets opened their BVC volleyball season with a 25-13, 25-15, 252-3 win over North Baltimore. Payton Diller was a perfect 63-of-63 setting with 13 assists and added a kill for P-G (2-7, 1-0 BVC). JUNIOR VARSITY: Pandora-Guilboa, 25-16, 25-19. LEIPSIC 3 ADA &emsp;&emsp;0 LEIPSIC – Kasey Brough had 17 kills, Danaysia Danzy 11 and Marisa Hermiller seven as Leipsic's volleyball team opened defense of its Northwest Conference tri-championship with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-17 win over Ada. Brough was 21-of-23 spiking and Danzy 19-of-22 for Leipsic, which last season shared the NWC title with Convoy Crestview and Lincolnview. Alaina Brown was 12-for-12 serving with four aces and 17 digs and Alivia Jones 17-for-17 serving with three aces and nine digs. Serenity Siefer set the table for the Vikings' hitters, going 47-for-49 setting with 22 assists. Lily Baumgartner led Ada (5-3) with four kills, Emilee Huffer had three and Daicy Robinson had two kills and four blocks. Courtney Sumner had nine digs and Autumn Andreason eight digs and 10 assists. VANLUE &emsp;&emsp; &emsp;&emsp;3 CORY-RAWSON &emsp;&emsp;1 RAWSON — Cory-Rawson went overtime in the third set but it wasn't enough as Vanlue outlasted the Hornets 25-13, 25-16, 24-26, 25-13 in the BVC volleyball opener for both schools on Wednesday. Chelcie McVetta led Cory-Rawson (0-6) with six kills, Morgan McVetta had five, Olivia Bacon four and Tessa Elchert (6 digs) three. Morgan McVetta also had 12 digs and Kaitlin Duffman had 10. Brooke Shepherd had eight assists.
