Foltz, Van Buren triumph at BVC tournament

OTTAWA –Van Buren's Carson Foltz tied for the medalist at the third and final Blanchard Valley Conference shootout Friday, which was held at Moose Landing in Ottawa. By doing so, Foltz – who shot an 80 – not only helped the Black Knights to a conference championship, but he was named Player of the Year. Van Buren won the tournament Friday outright, shooting a 324, 38 strokes better than runner-up Liberty-Benton. Pandora-Gilboa finished third with a 378, five strokes better than fourth-place Riverdale. Arcadia (389), North Baltimore (400) and McComb (434) rounded out the team standings. Arlington did not field a full team. It was Van Buren's day, and in some ways, Van Buren's season. Isaac Dyer matched teammate Foltz with an 80 Friday. Fellow Black Knight Weston Heitkamp shot an 81, while Van Buren's Tanner Bahn had an 83, Peter Harrington 87 and Ben Heitkamp fired a 92. Foltz, who shot a 228 over the three tournaments, joined Wes Heitkamp, Dyer and Ben Heitkamp on the all-BVC first team. Over the three league shootouts, Van Buren put up a 980 to claim the overall title. The Eagles finished second with a 1,078. For Liberty-Benton on Friday, CJ Beeman shot an 84, while Ryan Meade registered an 86. Riverdale's Nathan Alge shot a 9, while Pandora-Gilboa's Aiden Harris recorded a 90.
