Draws announced for FHS in sectional tennis

GIRLS TENNIS Five Findlay High tennis players have earned seeded positions for one of the two Division I sectional tournaments the Trojans will be hosting Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 at the FHS Courts. Ava Roach, who played mostly No. 1 singles for Findlay, will team up with Mia Kennard and play doubles in the tournament. No. 2 singles player Caitlin England and Lily Korecky will also play doubles. Kennard and Korecky had been Findlay's No. 1 doubles tandem much of the season. Roach and Kennard are seeded second in their half of the sectional tournament. England and Korecky are seeded No. 4. Katy Rubiola is seeded No. 3 for the singles portion of the sectional. Tabitha Cap and Jocelyn Barberree will also be competing in singles. In the Three Rivers Athletic Conference tournament held at Oregon Clay, Roach and England finished third at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, and Cap was fifth at No. 3. Findlay also got a third-place effort from Kennard and Rubiola at No. 1 doubles. Korecky and Barberree competed at No. 2 doubles and placed fourth. Toledo Notre Dame and Toledo St. Ursula ended up sharing the 2022 TRAC championship in girls tennis. St. Ursula did a bit better in regular season matches, but was second to Notre Dame in the TRAC tournament. Both programs ended the 2022 season with 15 points. Findlay had 12 points in the final tally, Fremont Ross, Oregon Clay and Toledo Central Catholic all had 8, Toledo Whitmer had 4 and Lima Senior 2. GIRLS SOCCER O-GLANDORF 3 CELINA 0 CELINA – Bri Douglas scored two goals, Makenna Siefker added another and Emma Brinkman's two saves were enough to earn Ottawa-Glandorf's girls soccer team a 3-0 win over Celina on Monday. Siefker, Mackenzie Recker and Myka Aldrich had assists as the Titans set up a showdown on Thursday between two state-ranked teams battling for the Western Buckeye League championship. Unbeaten in 10 straight matches (9-0-1) and 10-1-2 overall, O-G improved to 6-0-0 in WBL play. The Titans, ranked No. 6 among Ohio's Division III girls soccer programs, will host state-ranked Lima Shawnee (Division II) on Thursday. Shawnee was 6-0-3 overall and 4-0-2 in the WBL entering Monday's match with winless Van Wert. BLUFFTON 9 ADA 0 BLUFFTON – Allison Diller scored three times, Riley Eachus and Sami Scoles each scored twice, and Bluffton ran past Ada Monday, 9-0. Jasi Crawfis and Jordyn O'Connell each added a goal for the Pirates, while Diller, Scoles and Karson Hauenstein each had two assists. Aubrey Burkholder also added an assist. Bluffton had 27 shots, 16 of which were on goal. Ada had no shots in the game. Julia Mehaffie and Kynzie Ewing each played in goal for the Pirates. BOYS SOCCER BLUFFTON 1 ADA 0 BLUFFTON – Justin Good converted a penalty kick at the 61:08 mark, and Bluffton edged Ada Monday, 1-0. Bluffton had 14 shots in the game, 12 on goal. The Bulldogs had six shots, one on goal. Pirate goalkeeper Kyle Basil made two saves, while teammate Alek Davis made four. Ada's Colton Long made 10 saves in goal. The Pirates improved to 6-4-1. BOYS GOLF OTTAWA – Kalida edged Ottoville by a single stroke on Monday – 332 to 333 – to win the Putnam County League golf championship at Pike Run Golf Club. Leipsic finished third (349) in the PCL tournament and fourth in the final league standings. Pandora-Gilboa was fifth (388) on Monday and Columbus Grove sixth (390). Leipsic's Brevin Brandt was medalist of the PCL tournament, carding a 77 to edge Kalida's Connor Nartker, the PCL Player of the Year, by one stroke. Brandt was first-team all-PCL while teammate Luke Spoors (88) earned second-team honors. UF Athletics For the third straight week University of Findlay sophomore Journey Blevins has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference offensive player of the week in volleyball. A 5-foot-11 outside hitter out of North Union High School, Blevins had 44 kills, 19 digs and six blocks in leading the Oilers, 9-7 for the season and 6-0 in GMAC matches, to three wins last week. UF has won seven straight overall. Journey was one of four UF athletes recognized as GMAC athletes of the week. Alana Pohlman was the volleyball defensive player of the week after registering 13 blocks and 27 kills in the Oilers three wins. Ellie Tischler was the offensive player of the week in women's soccer after scoring three goals in two matches. And Tanner Grzegorczyk was the men's golfer of the week after shooting a school-record 66 and placing fourth overall in the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational.
